What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting position at Influential Search?
Our client, a publicly traded technology company in the manufacturing business based in Fremont, is hiring a Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting. This person will own SEC reporting, all financial statements, technical accounting and related disclosures, as well as SOX. The company is hybrid in the office 2 days a week.
Note that this role will also have operational accounting exposure/month-end closure exposure and will report to the Controller.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of the Company’s financial statements and SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K and review of certain 8-K’s and proxy statement, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SEC regulations
- Manage the preparation of supporting documentation for all data and disclosures in SEC filings, to maintain the completeness, accuracy and integrity of all financial disclosures
- Coordinate the review of SEC filings with external auditors and executive management
- Manage the preparation and maintain support for all areas of external reporting, including the Statement of Cash Flows, Statement of Stockholders’ Equity, EPS calculations, and Share-Based Compensation
- Review and perform analysis of complex accounting issues, including accounting for revenue contracts, financing agreements and new accounting standards
- Perform thorough research and assessment to draft technical accounting memos and policies; partner with external auditors and other third-party experts on business transactions to ensure accounting issues are properly concluded
- Manage the effort to design, develop and maintain the Company’s internal controls, including documentation and assessment (i.e. narratives, flowcharts, risk and control matrices)
- Oversee and coordinate the review and maintenance of IT controls with the internal IT department and external parties
- Coordinate testing of design and implementation with third party internal audit firm as well as external auditors under the requirements of SOX; manage annual testing approach.
- Develop and maintain formal Company-wide accounting policies to ensure alignment with business and relevant accounting guidance
- Manage cost of revenue and inventory processes, including item fulfillments, warranty activities, quarter-end inventory counts, inventory adjustments, cost accounting adjustments, inventory valuation, excess and obsolescence, purchase price variance, and cost allocations
- Assist with month-end close activities and quarterly financial package as needed
- Support special projects and workflow process improvements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent; CPA preferred;
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience; Big 4 preferred
- Manufacturing industry background preferred
- Strong technical accounting background with a thorough knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting standards, as well as experience with technical research
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and proactive
- Working knowledge and experience with XBRL and filing with the SEC
- Experience with NetSuite, Equity Edge, FloQast, a plus
