Role: System Engineer
Location: Fort Worth, TX or Denver, CO
Duration: 6 Months
BGV will be done for the selected candidates.
Job Summary:
System Engineer is responsible for supporting the development of product requirement specifications and detailed system design for the Train Control Office products.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Act as a subject matter expert with regards to railroad operations, system engineering and design, and other development related activities which may include leading configuration and design reviews within a project team;
Elicits customer’s functional specification requirements using interviews, document analysis, workshops, surveys, site visits, task and workflow analysis in highly complex environments;
Analyze, translate and refine requirements using critical evaluation techniques, focus groups, meetings, negotiation, systems knowledge working them into system designs and lower level requirements;
Develops/documents use cases, current or proposed processes, workflows, data flows, functional specifics, risk integration, and customer adoption plans;
Communicates with project managers, application developers, subject matter experts, end users and customer’s executives;
Assist business development byproviding technical input and review of proposals;and,
Takes active role in developing product-level documents such as product specifications, requirement specifications, white papers and use cases
Takes active role in developing segment-level documents such as requirement specifications, interface control documents and data dictionaries
Takes active role in developing and presenting design reviews to customers and government agencies.
Takes active role in developing customer supporting documentation such as installation diagrams and technical manuals
Manages requirements and tracing in DOORs requirements management software
Considered to be an expert on product line system technical issues, and therefore is expected to own difficult technical problems and drive them to resolution
Work independently or with a team to develop solutions that meet project requirements within the program schedule and budget constraints
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in railroad systems / software development;
BS/BA BSEE/BSCS/BSCE degree required with preference given to engineering or software fields, or those with extensive business management experience;
Demonstrated ability to achieve continuous, process-driven improvement.
Excellent oral communication skills; ability to articulate clearly and concisely, tailored to audience.
Excellent writing skills; must be able to produce clear and coherent written materials.
Self-motivated with proven ability to work independently and demonstrate strong leadership and team-building skills.
Ability to develop high level of credibility and strong positive relationships with customers, subordinates, peers, and management.
Demonstrated understanding or ability to learn detailed technical and railway operations processes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional requirements elicitation and documentation skills (requirement and design documents);
Analytical and conceptual expertise for business requirements management (techniques for analyzing, documenting, planning, verifying, testing and validating business requirements).
Ability to work in a very fast pace dynamic environment with daily adjustments to priorities and time to meet the needs of the organization.
Demonstrated experience with Program Management and Software Development Life cycle methodologies.
Up to 20% travel requirement.
