Role Overview
The Systems Administrator will oversee and support a self-contained Windows-based computing network built on a VMware virtual infrastructure. Responsibilities include system upkeep, security compliance, vulnerability assessments, and software deployment. The role involves proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing system performance while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity policies. Additionally, the administrator will assist in risk management, conduct system hardening, and coordinate asset management efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure, maintain, and secure VMware vSphere ESXi clusters across multiple facilities.
- Ensure smooth operation of an independent IT environment, managing network hardware, software, and connectivity.
- Provide technical support, diagnose user issues, and offer training as needed.
- Oversee firewall configurations, security protocols, and endpoint protection to safeguard infrastructure.
- Support information security initiatives, ensuring that enterprise policies and risk management strategies are effectively applied.
- Implement Risk Management Framework (RMF) procedures to align with cybersecurity benchmarks.
- Manage ongoing Continuous Monitoring (CONMON) efforts to identify and remediate vulnerabilities.
- Oversee the lifecycle management of IT assets, coordinating with vendors and internal teams on system refreshes and upgrades.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, including software licensing records, system inventories, and compliance reports.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience totaling ten years in IT-related roles).
- Security certification required.
- Hands-on experience in Windows administration, including Active Directory, Group Policy, and audit logging.
- Proven skills in VMware configuration and troubleshooting.
- Strong ability to analyze and resolve hardware/software issues in Windows environments.
- Knowledge of SCCM for software deployment and patch management.
- Experience working with network engineers, software developers, and IT administrators to resolve complex infrastructure challenges.
- Familiarity with Windows security best practices, including system hardening and timely patching.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Additional network or system administration certifications (e.g., CNE, CNA, or similar).
- Background in data communications, network administration, or security engineering.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and apply them to enterprise needs.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
