The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description ITS provides operational support to state agencies on a 24x7x365 basis; some positions may be required to provide this critical service at any time.Under the direction of the Assistant Director Information Technology Services 1, M4, within the Chief Technology Office/Data Center Services/Console and Print Operations, the position will assist in managing a data center providing 24 X7 service to our customer agencies in an IBM mainframe, Unisys A series, Unisys 2200 series, and open systems environment. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: • Develop, implement, and maintain technical plans.• Respond to systems disruptions, developing solutions to problems and consulting with technical staff and users to evaluate and implement the solutions.• Manage and escalate problems and notify management, Technical Support, Help Desk, and customers as documented.• Develop procedures, standards, and internal controls.• Supervise data center staff, including the development of performance programs.• Direct, deploy, train, motivate, and develop staff in order to make maximum use of staff's existing abilities.• Make recommendations on hardware and software acquisitions.• Perform the full range of supervisory duties.Preferred Skills/Qualifications: The candidate must have the ability to resolve problems by developing solutions and implementing improvements to processes; good oral and written communication skills, strong leadership skills, supervisory experience, and the ability to maintain an effective working environment with managers, customers, and co-workers.Due to the secure nature of the work at the Data Center sites, candidates will be required to undergo a special background check.Some travel to the other Data Center Sites may be needed for site coverage and for escort duty of non-authorized visitors.More information on shift, lottery restrictions, and background checks will be discussed at the time of interview.

Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as a Manager Information Technology Services 1 (Operations), SG27/M2, OR in a position at the SG25 or M1 level or higher deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades or one M-grade.Note: If you are on the examination eligible list for the position title in this location, you do not need to respond to this posting unless you are also eligible for appointment by one of the qualifications listed above. Candidates must be reachable on the current eligible list for this title in order to be list appointed.

Positions located in New York City, will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non- competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
