Job Title: Network Engineer                     Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Network Hardware Mgr                   Pay Grade: T6

Primary Purpose: Configure, support and maintain surveillance VMS and physical access control. Maintain and support switches, routers, IP cameras and IOS.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree or certifications preferred but not required.

Special Knowledge Skills:

• Broad based IT knowledge with network systems engineering focus with a minimum of 3 years of experience
• High level knowledge of network technologies, architectures, and platforms (data routing/switching, wireless 802.11n)
• Knowledge of Cisco switching and routing protocols
• Ability to identify and provide solutions to systems issues based on customer input
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Strong service-oriented personality
• Strong documentation and technical writing skills
• An ability to learn new technologies and assimilate new information quickly
• Strong problem solving and logical analysis skills

Experience:

• 3 years’ minimum experience.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Employment

• Must work to ensure network devices are implemented, maintained, and highly available
• Configure and support network operating center’s environment consisting of the District’s VMS and access control software.
• Maintain current IOS on all Cisco switches and routers
• Maintain VMS IP cameras
• Maintain and upgrade Cisco switches and routers
• Act as a technical resource to other IT departments
• Configure and support access control system for ECISD

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
