Topeka Public Schools is dedicated to fostering a technology-rich learning environment that empowers students and educators. We are seeking a Network Specialist II to join our IT team of System Administrators and play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our network infrastructure.
Position Summary:
As a Network Specialist II, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration,
maintenance, and support of complex server-based and cloud-based systems. You will ensure application and infrastructure security monitoring, analyze and resolve related issues, and evaluate systems to meet network requirements. This role is integral to supporting a K-12 educational environment, ensuring smooth technology operations that enhance student learning and administrative efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, maintain, and support physical and cloud-based servers, network
infrastructure, and enterprise applications.
• Perform system administration duties including user account management, security
configurations, and software updates.
• Monitor and troubleshoot network and system performance, identifying and resolving
issues proactively.
• Implement and maintain security measures to safeguard network systems, including
firewalls, intrusion detection, and endpoint security solutions.
• Assist in the development and enforcement of IT policies and procedures to ensure
compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
• Support virtualization, cloud computing, and backup/recovery strategies to ensure
business continuity.
• Collaborate with IT staff and school administrators to assess system needs and develop
solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and support to end-users, including educators and
administrative personnel.
• Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and network topology.
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies to improve network efficiency and
security.
Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field OR
equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience in network/system administration.
• Proficiency in Windows Server, Linux, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google
Cloud), and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
• Strong knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs,
VPNs, and firewalls.
• Experience with enterprise security practices, including SIEM solutions, endpoint
security, and access control measures.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred:
• Experience working in a K-12 or educational environment.
• Industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Cisco CCNA,
CompTIA Network /Security , AWS Certified SysOps Administrator).
• Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education and educational technology platforms.
