Job Title: Database Administrator - Project Lead

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced IDMS DBA Project Lead to support a high-profile project for the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS). This position requires hands-on management of databases and operations within a z/OS environment on a z-series IBM mainframe. Candidates should be self-motivated, flexible, and able to collaborate with a diverse team of IT professionals, consultants, and government staff. This is a highly visible role that requires strong technical and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide IDMS DBA support for application and infrastructure databases.
- Collaborate with the Clemson Database Administration team to maintain test, staging, and production databases.
- Optimize database performance in a z/OS mainframe environment.
- Monitor and tune IDMS features for optimal performance.
- Advise development teams on best practices for database modeling and changes.
- Coordinate with external vendors and state agencies.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience with IDMS deployment and operations in a z/OS mainframe environment.
- Proficiency in IDMS Network database creation, modification, and tuning.
- Knowledge of IDMS security and ADS/O application structures.
- Experience with COBOL, ADS/O programming, and IBM High-Level Assembler on z/OS.
- Strong understanding of IDMS Perfmon and performance monitoring.
- Experience with IT development and implementation projects, including project planning and effort estimation.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral), including the ability to present to project management.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate across departments.
- Integrity and confidence in making informed decisions.
Preferred Skills:
- Hands-on experience managing IDMS performance and availability 24x7.
- Experience with IDMS upgrades, patching, and monitoring configurations.
- Familiarity with RACF security and IDMS SQL option.
- Healthcare industry experience or managing PHI/PII data.
- Experience with MS SQL Server or MongoDB is a plus.
- Knowledge of Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) and Medicaid operations.
- Experience working in public sector environments.
