Job Title: Database Administrator - Project Lead

Location: Columbia, SC(100% Remote)

Duration: 12 months

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced IDMS DBA Project Lead to support a high-profile project for the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS). This position requires hands-on management of databases and operations within a z/OS environment on a z-series IBM mainframe. Candidates should be self-motivated, flexible, and able to collaborate with a diverse team of IT professionals, consultants, and government staff. This is a highly visible role that requires strong technical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide IDMS DBA support for application and infrastructure databases.
• Collaborate with the Clemson Database Administration team to maintain test, staging, and production databases.
• Optimize database performance in a z/OS mainframe environment.
• Monitor and tune IDMS features for optimal performance.
• Advise development teams on best practices for database modeling and changes.
• Coordinate with external vendors and state agencies.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Extensive experience with IDMS deployment and operations in a z/OS mainframe environment.
• Proficiency in IDMS Network database creation, modification, and tuning.
• Knowledge of IDMS security and ADS/O application structures.
• Experience with COBOL, ADS/O programming, and IBM High-Level Assembler on z/OS.
• Strong understanding of IDMS Perfmon and performance monitoring.
• Experience with IT development and implementation projects, including project planning and effort estimation.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral), including the ability to present to project management.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate across departments.
• Integrity and confidence in making informed decisions.

Preferred Skills:

• Hands-on experience managing IDMS performance and availability 24x7.
• Experience with IDMS upgrades, patching, and monitoring configurations.
• Familiarity with RACF security and IDMS SQL option.
• Healthcare industry experience or managing PHI/PII data.
• Experience with MS SQL Server or MongoDB is a plus.
• Knowledge of Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) and Medicaid operations.
• Experience working in public sector environments.
