Job Title: Traveling Safety Manager – Heavy Civil & T&D
Location: Primarily Ohio (80%) with travel to Indiana and Michigan (20%)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Traveling Safety Manager to support our field operations across Heavy Civil and Transmission & Distribution (T&D) construction projects. This role will be responsible for promoting a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory safety requirements, and mentoring field teams to execute work safely and efficiently.
This is a traveling position with a primary focus in Ohio and occasional travel to Indiana and Michigan. The ideal candidate is highly mobile, hands-on, and experienced in both civil infrastructure and utility construction safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead safety efforts on active jobsites and support field crews to drive safety-first culture.
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and audits across multiple projects.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, local, and company-specific safety regulations.
- Deliver engaging and informative safety orientations, toolbox talks, and site-specific training.
- Support incident investigations and root cause analyses with thorough reporting.
- Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to develop and implement project-specific safety plans (JHAs, permits, pre-job briefs).
- Track and analyze safety metrics, trends, and leading indicators; implement corrective actions.
- Maintain required documentation including daily safety reports, inspection checklists, and training logs.
- Collaborate with the corporate safety team to improve programs and share best practices.
- Promote human performance and behavior-based safety practices on all projects.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of safety experience in heavy civil and/or T&D (transmission, distribution, substations, or related utility construction).
- Solid understanding of OSHA 1926 regulations and utility industry safety standards.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with a boots-on-the-ground mentality.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage safety across multiple job sites.
- Willingness to travel extensively and stay near project locations as needed.
Preferred Certifications (BCSP):
- CHST – Construction Health and Safety Technician
- CSP – Certified Safety Professional
- STS – Safety Trained Supervisor
- SMS – Safety Management Specialist
(Other certifications such as First Aid/CPR, OSHA 30, and PEC Safeland are also valued.)
