InfraRed is part of SLC Management, the institutional alternatives and traditional asset management business of Sun Life. InfraRed represents the infrastructure equity arm of SLC Management, which also incorporates BGO, a global real estate investment management adviser, and Crescent Capital, a global alternative credit investment asset manager.


Role Purpose

In this role you will serve as the nominated InfraRed board director managing a portfolio of infrastructure investments in the Americas. You will support the Asset Management ("AM") team and line manager on supporting functions such as monitoring performance on investments and preparing reports. You will advise the investment team on new asset acquisition, developments, refinancings and divestments. In the event of a dispute, you will lead the legal strategy and negotiate with counterparties involved. 

 

Preferred location for this position is NYC but we will consider qualified candidates who are based out of state.


Key Job Responsibilities

  • Working proactively within InfraRed to pursue excellence in our asset management and delivering a “Best in Class” approach.
  • Managing a portfolio of investments as the nominated InfraRed board director representing the interests of our fund investors and taking on the full statutory responsibilities of a Company Director. More specifically:
    • Governance – ensuring good governance in the day-to-day operations of any allocated asset, including the scrutiny of SPV management performance and reporting, ensuring that all statutory, contractual and corporate regulations and InfraRed policies, such ESG, are properly complied with, and otherwise driving best practice. Embrace the Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI).
    • Value preservation – take the lead to ensure that the occurrence of issues within a project are minimized, and that any that do arise are promptly successfully resolved or appropriately mitigated.
    • Value enhancement – take the lead to proactively identify and deliver all achievable value enhancement opportunities, and to ensure that all valuation assumptions are understood and actioned or amended as appropriate.
    • Stakeholder Management – develop and manage key stakeholder relationships, including public sector Clients, and work with the InfraRed colleagues to identify and implement actions and initiatives that may constructively improve these. Attend, contribute to, and where appropriate, lead, key contractual meetings and other necessary interactions.
  • Provide thought leadership in the development of strategies and tactical action plans aimed at:
      •  Resolving material critical, commercial and contentious issues across the portfolio
      • Optimizing operational performance, governance and reporting
  • Carrying out asset specific and portfolio-wide analysis, taking a proactive and entrepreneurial approach to identify and deliver value initiatives across the portfolio.
  • Undertake due diligence activities on new investments, such as reviewing project documentation, technical due diligence reports, advising and supporting the Investment Team in their development work and making site visits to support bids and acquisitions.
  • Assisting Asset Management colleagues on specific tasks on other projects which may have operational, performance or relationship issues
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which they are involved, including InfraRed Global Policies.
  • Support the line manager and the AM team with supporting functions such, among others, preparing reports.
  •  Provide less experienced members of the AM team with mentoring and guidance.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in the management of real infrastructure assets, preferably some knowledge of renewable power generation assets.
  • Strong technical knowledge, with special focus on the power generation sector in the US.
  • Strong ethical approach to work and relationships and a desire to work in an organization that prides itself in operating to the highest standards of business conduct.
  • Ability to take the initiative and represent shareholder interests on large Infrastructure special purpose company Boards, and to understand and deliver the needs of investors
  • Capability to work autonomously with the guidance of the line manager and in coordination with the broader InfraRed team. In doing so, be able to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, remain committed, have the resilience to deal with and solve problems and to maintain the motivation to initiate and deliver value optimisation plans over the long term
  • Astute commercial understanding and business acumen and can demonstrate a track record in optimizing value from the delivery and management of real infrastructure projects.
  • Display a wide range of interpersonal skills and initiative to resolve difficult issues as and when they arise
  • Good understanding of financial models, financial statements, performance reports and of asset valuation methodology, and have had management responsibility for delivering financial results
  • Confident in preparing asset performance reports and succinctly presenting these to internal investment review committees, and able to deliver these within tight deadlines
  • A willingness to travel as required

The base salary range offered for this position is between $175,000 - 200,000 per annum. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
