CEI Inspector - Raleigh, NC
Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is one of the fastest-growing full-service transportation consulting and design firms in the Southeast. We are currently looking for an experienced Inspector to join our North Carolina CEI Team.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for performing assignments in assisting the Senior Inspector in the performance of their duties.
- Provide inspection services for earthwork, asphalt, concrete, structures, erosion, traffic, and other construction items as dictated by the project, complete reports, and forms as necessary, and perform other duties as directed by management and/or the client.
- Review application materials including asphalt, concrete, and earthwork for acceptable materials and mix.
- Ensure that materials meet project specifications.
- Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications.
- Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts, and structural operations such as foundation excavation.
- Monitor placement of pilings, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete, and backfill.
- Inspect and monitor traffic control and erosion control devices.
- Perform accurate calculations and computations.
- Complete advanced QC testing and document results.
- Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications.
- Document and immediately report any non-compliance actions and safety violations to your immediate supervisor.
Qualifications
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Must complete a pre-employment screeing; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and data entry.
- Familiarity with testing equipment and inspection procedures.
- Able to use a smart device and proficient in Microsoft programs.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Associate or BS Civil Engineering degree desired.
- Minimum 3 years of NCDOT experience required.
- Concrete Field Inspector Level I, Asphalt Roadway Level I, Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I, Nuclear Radiation Safety Certification, and Conventional Density Certification are required or must be obtained within 6 weeks of hire.
- Engineering Technician certification or equivalent qualification is a plus.
- NCDOT experience in materials testing, inspection, and quality assurance is preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Transportation & Travel:
- Must be willing and able to travel to assigned locations as required.
- The firm will provide a vehicle for assignments involving travel to multiple locations; mileage reimbursement will be negotiated.
- Training:
- Must be willing to attend specialized training and certification programs provided by NCDOT.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic.
Expected Hours of Work
- The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily.
- Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule.
- Work assignments may be statewide and could require overnight lodging.
