Civil Engineering Co-op
Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is accepting applications for the Civil Engineering Co-op position. As a Co-op Student at ICE, you will gain valuable industry experience by working with our design team. The Co-op with ICE provides you with a real-world experience that will enhance your future academic experience. There is room for growth within our organization for dedicated civil engineering professionals. Once qualified candidates have been identified, the recruiting team will schedule interviews. The Co-op spans 3 semesters and the exact start and end dates will be determined during the recruitment process.
Position Summary:
This Civil Engineering Co-op student will work closely with experienced Civil Engineers and Project Managers to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of civil engineering projects. The role will involve assisting with design, analysis, and project support tasks related to infrastructure projects such as roadways, drainage systems, and stormwater management. During the Co-op, the student will work closely with project managers in the drainage aspects of traditional design-bid-build and alternative delivery infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate must be able to perform complex engineering functions, field data collection, and troubleshooting for a variety of water resource and roadway design related projects.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist with the planning, design, and analysis of civil engineering projects, including highways, drainage systems, and stormwater management.
- Participate in field investigations and site assessments to gather data for use in the design process.
- Help prepare specifications, design drawings, and permit submittals.
- Support in the development of preliminary project cost estimates and review project plans for compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
- Collaborate with team members on the review of design work and reports to ensure project specifications and quality standards are met.
- Attend project meetings, client progress reviews, and pre-construction meetings.
- Gain exposure to engineering software such as MicroStation, GEOPAK, and HydroCAD.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Students must be enrolled at NC State University, Clemson University, or Georgia Institute of Technology pursuing a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- A strong interest in infrastructure design. drainage design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and stormwater management.
- Familiarity with engineering software tools such as MicroStation and GEOPAK is a plus, but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- U.S. citizenship or legal residency.
Physical Demands:
This position may require occasional fieldwork, including walking long distances, standing for extended periods, or working in various weather conditions. Office work will involve extended periods of sitting and using computer software to create designs.
Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time co-op position for the duration of the academic term. Standard office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one unpaid hour for lunch.
