Responsibilities
- As assigned by the Department, perform on-site inspection of District Three Welcome Centers, Rest Area Facilities, and Weigh in Motion Stations as outlined in the Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) Standard Criteria Handbook for the Uniform Inspection of Rest Areas, Welcome Centers, Weigh Stations, and Weigh Stations with Truck Comfort Stations (facilities) to maintain a safe, clean, operable, attractive and comfortable condition for the traveling public.
- Ensure detailed accurate inspection records to include: photos of the condition of inspected facilities; inspections shall be coded and reported utilizing the Quality Assessment Review forms within the Department’s Inspection Handbook.
- Note significant events that affect the work area maintained and subsequently submit inspection results to the Department’s project manager after each inspection.
- On a monthly basis, publish and submit to the Department’s project manager an inspection schedule for all facilities within District Three.
- Inspect work site activities at the facilities for conformity with safety regulations and take corrective measures when deficiencies are identified.
- Monitor and inspect work zones to determine the adequacy, in regard to safety, of the maintenance of traffic through the work zones within District Three facilities.
- Identify work needs and gather/deliver associated quantities for utilization in the production of future contracts, as needed.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- One 1 year of CEI/MEI experience in the construction industry is preferred.
- FDOT Advanced MOT
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Fleet drivers must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
- Employees must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic.
Expected Hours of Work
The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule. This is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office or job site 5 days per week.
