Transportation Technician III - Raleigh, NC
Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC is looking for a Transportation Technician III to join our team to support various NCDOT projects. The Inspector is responsible for the daily monitoring activities of asphalt paving and production at asphalt plant sites for conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure materials meet specifications. In addition, the position will perform engineering inspection activities such as construction observation and field sampling of asphalt for construction applications. The inspector will be required to record daily notes for engineering staff.
Position Responsibilities:
- Ensure all materials, procedures, and safety rules comply with the latest NCDOT standards.
- Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications.
- Material sampling of concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
- Record daily construction inspection notes for CEI document management.
- Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives.
- Attend meetings and interact with clients and third-party personnel.
- Must use diplomacy in difficult and stressful situations.
Position Requirements:
- HS diploma or equivalent required. Technical college coursework in engineering is preferred.
- 2 or more years of highway construction or asphalt roadway experience is preferred.
- A minimum of four years of experience in DOT QC/inspection work is required with current certifications.
- Strong written and communication skills required.
- Proficient in Microsoft programs and ability to learn new technology.
- Above-average math and problem-solving skills are required.
Physical Demands: While working in the office, this position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Must have visual acuity to recognize/change/add precise details on CAD drawings.
During fieldwork, the position entails moderate physical exertion, encompassing walking, standing, bending, and ascending stairs or ladders. The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork exposes inspectors to various environmental conditions, including but not limited to loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and temperature fluctuations. Inspectors must adeptly navigate construction sites and thoroughly inspect materials and structures.

Expected Hours of Work: This position is full-time (40 hours per week). Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing one unpaid hour for lunch each day. While overtime is generally not anticipated, occasional projects or deadlines may necessitate additional hours, compensated according to company policy. Flexible schedules may be available with prior approval from the immediate supervisor. Work schedules may vary based on project demands.
