About the Role
Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) Chicago office is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our Team! We are a leading engineering firm known for quality, responsiveness, and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm. As the Senior Structural Engineer, you will have projects that primarily focus on bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation project-related structures for public agencies, including IDOT, ISTHA, CDOT, CCDOTH, and local agencies. Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities
- Conduct bridge inspections and prepare Bridge Condition Reports.
- Coordinates with firm leaders to plan and secure the required technical and tangible resources for project delivery.
- Lead the preparation of design computations, plans, specifications, and quantity and cost estimates.
- Monitors clients’ project delivery goals and proactively identifies issues and obstacles which may compromise or influence the achievement of such goals.
- Monitors project delivery in relation to the contracted scope and fees. Promptly identifies client-requested out-of-scope services and works diligently with the client in either securing additional compensation or limiting efforts to the contracted scope of work while ensuring the client is aware of the limits of negotiated scope.
- Negotiate contracts with clients along with developing scope, fees, and schedule.
- Provide constructability reviews and value engineering reviews.
- Responsible for the organization of project documents and files.
- Responsible for the technical accuracy and competency of structural projects.
- Schedules internal and external project progress meetings with all disciplines and personnel to monitor project progress.
- Signs and seals assigned project documents.
- Use various software and programs for structural analysis, design, and plan preparation.

- Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structural engineering is required.
- Master’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering preferred.
- Active Structural Engineer license in the State of Illinois.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- NBIS Team Leader certification or willingness to obtain.
- Proven leadership skills with engineering staff and organizations.
- Strong team player in a multi-disciplinary environment who can work on and contribute to several projects simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Working Conditions
- IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.
- Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
- Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
- Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
- Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
- Usually works in outside weather conditions.
