About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated VP, Aviation Business Practice Leader to oversee our aviation operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in aviation management, with a focus on maintenance management and compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. This position requires experience in Aviation practice growth, broader team development, a sound understanding of the Aviation market and project delivery of varying sizes and complex Aviation Projects. The individual must demonstrate leadership in the pursuit of Aviation projects and will collaborate regionally and nationally on strategic Aviation transportation pursuits and support delivery of those projects as needed.
The duties include client development, proposal support, assisting with day-to-day operations of the Sector/Area with focus on performance optimization, and management of projects and project teams. Opportunities may include the design of runways, taxiways, and aprons, bituminous and concrete pavement, stormwater and utility infrastructure; coordination with airports, airlines, FAA, and other tenants; construction administration/management; grant management; coordination and interaction with other IEI and team member disciplines; and active industry involvement. What will you do:
- Lead the IEI Aviation practice including client management, project development, financial performance and revenue growth, backlog balancing through utilization and workshare, and associate mentorship and growth.
- Support business development in the Aviation market to provide growth and sustained backlog, including management of client relationships for loyalty, long-term engagement, and lifetime retention.

Assume role as trouble shooter and crisis/risk manager on projects/programs nationwide solving complex technical, operational and contract/relationship challenges while maintaining strong client alignment.
- Work collaboratively with leadership to develop goals, growth plans, and implement strategic initiatives.
- Lead high-performance teams in the areas of: continuing a culture of excellence, ingenuity, and integrity; finding and vetting new talent who add value and grow your project team; contribute to technical training, mentoring, and learning and maintaining excellent client relationships.
- Manage daily aviation operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance with all safety regulations and standards.
- Demonstrated experience in the successful project start, execution and close-out, on large multi-billion-dollar construction projects.
- Experience and proficiency in all construction documentation, including design, planning and procurement.
- Experience in permitting with various agencies (local/state/federal) as required.
- Provide leadership and direction to the aviation team, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
- Handle customer inquiries and concerns, providing solutions to ensure satisfaction.
To be successful:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited university; and PE License in a current IEI Market or desired market required

30 years of professional experience in aviation leadership, including expertise in managing and designing terminal, airside, and landside projects.
- Strong knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and industry standards
- Strong knowledge of FAA advisory circulars related to airport design and the FAA grant process
- Substantial knowledge in developing and establishing QA/QC procedures, systems and training to prevent errors including audits and review or processes
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with varying levels including team members, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills.
- Well-developed proposal and project management skills.
- Demonstrates and utilizes a client centric focused approach to problem solving and conflict resolution
- Strong computer skills (AutoCAD, ANSYS, Civil 3D, Revit, and MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook); and other aviation programs/software.
- Ability to travel across the region to existing/potential Airport Clients.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the capacity to manage teams efficiently.
Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications
- A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.
- Must have the permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured.

Working Conditions
- Usually works in an office setting and may occasionally work in outside weather conditions.
- Frequent local and out-of-state travel may be required.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration.
- Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination.
- Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
- Sometimes required to work extra hours, including weekends, to attend community events and meetings and keep up with unexpected situations impacting on the project.
