Assistant Resident Engineer
Project Overview:
The Purple Line is a 16-mile light rail line that will extend from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George's County. It will provide a direct connection to the Metrorail Red, Green and Orange Lines, at Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, and New Carrollton. The Purple Line will also connect to MARC, Amtrak, and local bus services. The Purple Line is owned by the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA). In spring of 2016, MDOT MTA selected a private-sector partner, Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP) to design, build, operate, and maintain the light rail system for 35 years.
Position Overview:
We are currently seeking motivated individuals to join our team. As a member of our organization, you will have the opportunity to contribute to oversight and ensuring quality control and assisting with project documentation and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, high levels of discretion, professionalism, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. The position will be required to be full-time in the project office in Riverdale MD. However, the candidate should understand that this is a field inspection position, and a majority of the daily duties will require outdoor field work, including significant walking on uneven terrain, in all weather conditions. May require weekend and night work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with team members to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
- Perform a variety of tasks related to construction management.
- Provide updates to project leadership on construction progress, issue resolution, and contractor performance.
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction oversight.
- Assist the quality management team in performing quality oversight.
- Assist the Outreach and Communications team with resolving project issues.
- Provide construction contract compliance oversight of the design-build work.
- Represent the MDOT MTA in meetings with the contractor, third parties, and the public.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, contractor, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Contribute to a positive work environment through teamwork and collaboration.
Qualifications:
- BS Civil Engineering. Specific training may be preferred. Hazmat experience is a plus.
- PE or CCM preferred.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of construction experience, preferably in the highway or transit construction.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications or tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work on weekends and nights as required.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks or responsibilities.
