JOB TITLE: Quality Assurance Nurse Specialist

Overview:
The Quality Assurance Nurse Specialist plays a critical role in upholding the highest standards of patient care, safety, and compliance. This position supports the National Director of Nursing with conducting thorough investigations, audits, and overseeing safety protocols to ensure the quality of infusion services. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the QA Nurse specialist will drive continuous improvement in nursing related safety practices and quality management throughout the organization. The position will help to ensure the company’s adherence to state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and standard operating procedures.

Quality Management
- Lead and manage internal audits of clinical and operational processes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards (ACHC, URAC, state, and federal requirements).
- Assist with accreditation efforts as needed.
- Coordinate and oversee the infection prevention and control program which includes but is not limited to being a resource to personnel and patients regarding infection control issues, monitoring infection control reports for patients and employees, managing communication between the infection control team, as well as conducting risk assessments and establishing goals to address identified infection risks.
- Prepare and interpret infection control policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with OSHA, federal, state, local laws, and accrediting bodies.
- Oversee the performance and execution of nursing audit plan. Leverage technology and adopt industry best practices.
- Conduct root cause investigations for incidents, near misses, and adverse events to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Implement and monitor corrective actions and preventive measures to mitigate risks and enhance patient safety.
- Develop and review policies and procedures related to quality and safety in collaboration with leadership to meet evolving industry standards.
- Oversee compliance with reporting requirements for safety and quality metrics, ensuring accurate data collection and submission to regulatory bodies.
- Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Safety Protocol Oversight:
- Coordinate safety drills, risk assessments, and emergency preparedness exercises to maintain operational readiness in all care settings.
- Act as a liaison between the pharmacy, nursing, and patient care teams to address and resolve safety concerns promptly.
- Participate in post-incident evaluations and contribute to the creation of action plans to prevent recurrence of incidents.
Auditing and Investigations
- Plan and execute comprehensive audits of patient charts to identify areas of improvement and aid in the building of educational materials for staff.
- Ensure documentation accuracy in patient care records and medication administration, maintaining the highest level of quality and safety in home infusion therapies.
- Develop audit reports and present findings to leadership, offering actionable recommendations for compliance improvement and patient safety enhancements.
- Collaborate with management to design competency assessments and programs to ensure staff meet quality and safety standards.
- Serve as the point of contact for investigating incidents, including medication errors, equipment malfunctions, and patient complaints.
- Analyze incident trends and collaborate with management to implement process improvements that enhance patient safety.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Prepare leadership and participate in external inspections, to help ensure readiness for regulatory reviews.
- Handle company information with appropriate sensitivity and safeguards to ensure confidentiality and right to privacy, in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and best practices in quality and safety to inform decision-making.
- Assist in nursing related special projects including new location start-ups and relocations, data merges, policy changes, and infusion suite opportunities as needed.
- Prepare and management reports as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
- Dedicate 10% of his/her overall responsibilities to the Quality Management Committee.
- Maintain clinical skills and knowledge of infusion therapy standards by reviewing literature and attending in-services, seminars, and conferences.
- Possess flexibility when work assignments need to be adjusted to meet service, delivery and workload needs of team.
Qualifications: (Education, Certification/Licensure, and Experience/Skills)
- Current unrestricted RN license
- A Bachelor of Science in nursing, an associate degree in nursing, or have graduated from an accredited and approved nursing program.
- A current BLS certification is required.
- Minimum of 3 year’s experience in quality management, safety, or auditing in a healthcare setting, preferably in home infusion or specialty pharmacy services.
- Strong understanding of clinical quality improvement processes, regulatory compliance, and patient safety principles.
- Experience with root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail in auditing and reporting.
Physical Demands:
Required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear; required to use hands to operate vehicles and office equipment; must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs; specific vision requirements for this job include: close, distance and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position without compromising patient care.
