Job Description

With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. Leaders sought. Immediate need for leaders who can drive Accountability in a Professional, Civil environment. Must be able to demonstrate ability to lead with: Fairness, Consistency, Respectfulness and Transparency.

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.

Additional common management responsibilities as listed in Shipbuilding Management Charter 0001 within command media (SBMC 0001) and applicants should review the Charter and policies and procedures before applying for position.

Basic Qualifications

Eligible candidates must have a high school diploma (or G.E.D.) and either 1 year of active experience as a journeyman welder at Ingalls Shipbuilding, or be an Ingalls Apprentice graduate (in a craft related to welding), or 3 years of documented journeyman experience in welding.

  • Internal employees must have a superior attendance and disciplinary record.
    • Candidate cannot have more than 3 unexcused absences in the last 180 day period.
    • Candidate cannot have any safety DANS that result in a disciplinary layoff in last 180 day period.
    • Candidate cannot have more than 2 total DANS in the last 180 day period (excluding lost tool).
