Job Title: Extended Learning Program Coach Schedule: 22 hrs/week

Job Type: On-site/ Part-time, 12-month FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Assistant Principal Pay: $24.00/hr, Starting; Salary

POSITION SUMMARY:


The Extended Learning Program Coach will develop an enticing, intriguing, fun, challenging, and meaningful after-school opportunity for all students through sports education and training. The ELPC will design the sports activities, programming, and experiences in a way that will fulfill students’ potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The ELPC will differentiate the program based on the interests and needs of the students, including differentiation for students with special needs, English Learners, and other subgroups of students.


ELPC must be independent and responsible workers who conduct themselves in an appropriate manner, setting an example for children, parents and co-workers by reflecting the schools core values of relationships, equity, transparency, communication and mutual respect. The person selected for this position will be under the direct supervision of the ELP Manager and will be responsible for providing an appropriately safe, caring and enriching environment for the children enrolled in the extended learning program (ELP).


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB DUTIES:

  • Plan, arrange, oversee, and facilitate the extended learning program sports program and learning clubs
  • Plan and arrange for students to participate and compete in their activity against other schools / leagues
  • Ensure proper concussion protocol and excessive heat protocols are followed
  • Develop, create and implement recreational and enrichment activities
  • Ensure students are playing with equipment in a safe manner
  • Implement evidence-based activities to meet comprehensive student needs
  • Maintain open communication with the ELP Manager
  • Initiate and maintain positive relationships with school staff including principal, office staff, custodial staff and teachers of key importance to the extended learning programs
  • Comply with the “checks and balances” system to ensure that clean-up is done EVERYDAY
  • Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, absences and emergency information on each child
  • Comply with all emergency procedures appropriate to the site and in conformity with procedures adopted by emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of the children and staff
  • Maintain all supplies, equipment and materials; inform the Site Manager when new/additional supplies are needed
  • Ensure that all staff and children are respectful of school property; ensure all school rules are followed
  • Timely document and report all safety instances/violations to the Site Manager
  • Supervise assigned students to ensure that students are safe and the program operates in an organized and effective manner
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support Ingenium Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the Code of Conduct

Responsibilities When Interacting with Children

  • Consistently demonstrate positive interaction with all children; talk to them and treat them with dignity and respect
  • Consistently demonstrate positive discipline; teach and redirect rather than scolding or reprimanding them; firmly and consistently enforce the rules; ensure that logical consequences are applied evenly and without bias
  • Express clear expectations and hold children accountable for adhering to them
  • Help children to develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth
  • Consistently demonstrate and reinforce the values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility

Responsibilities When Interacting with Parents

  • Positively identify parents before releasing children (picture ID necessary until you can personally identify them)
  • Introduce yourself to parents and communicate with them regularly regarding program information, schedule changes, and permission slips
  • Communicate on a daily basis regarding the behavior of their children positive and negative (make sure to have parents review and sign corrective behavior reports)
  • Encourage parents to participate or volunteer in special events or on field trips
  • Express appreciation for parent interest in their child’s participation in the program

Extended Learning Program Culture

  • Encourage students to set and maintain minimum standards of behavior, sportsmanship, teamwork, etc., measuring progress through individual and team aim setting, as needed
  • Create a safe, developmentally appropriate environment conducive to learning sports and based on student interests and aims
  • Implement and support school/organizational policies governing student life and conduct

ELP Coach Program

  • Assess student athlete's present level of sports ability, differentiating practice as needed to match student skills and abilities.
  • Teach age and sport appropriate skills, techniques, plays, and strategies for all student athletes, keeping in mind the students' present level of expertise.
  • In cooperation with the students and using student interest surveys, develop the sports rotation and programming.
  • Prepare for and coach joyful and meaningful sports-specific practices in order to demonstrate and teach student athletes sports techniques, skills, strategies, plays, etc.
  • Teach student athletes about teamwork, sportsmanship, injury prevention, nutrition, and hydration.
  • Advise student athletes on how to stand and move properly, teaching correct sports techniques to help prevent injuries.
  • Educate students about health, fitness, and safety.
  • Incorporate cross-training and strength-training into routine to maintain high levels of technical proficiency, physical ability, and physical fitness.
  • Develop ideas for creating plays, keeping notes to record specific strategies.
  • Read and study sports plays and strategies, sharing ideas with students and eliciting feedback on plays and strategies. Determine how to translate ideas into meaningful and joyful experiences for students.
  • Actively seek opportunities for students to compete in internal and external scrimmages, games, league-play, and competitions.
  • Plan, prepare for, and coach during internal and external scrimmages, games, league-play, and competitions. This will require weekend and late night commitments.
  • Allow for and encourage student participation without bias, ensuring equitable participation and fair methods.
  • Design uniforms and other artistic elements of athletics, in collaboration with students, as needed.
  • Assess students' athletic abilities to determine where improvement or change is needed, and offer support for change in a manner that is respectful, kind, and considerate.
  • Display a passion for sports and love sharing that passion with children
  • Adapt coaching methods to meet students’ differing needs and interests
  • Prepare for practice, competitions, and expositions
  • Plan, prepare for, and hold parent meetings prior to each new sport.
  • Immediately report all student injuries according to Ingenium Schools' policies, including following specific concussion protocol.
  • As needed, act as referee and officiate at sporting events, games, or competitions, to maintain high standards of play and to ensure that game rules are observed.
  • Inspect sporting equipment and examine participants in order to ensure compliance with sport and safety regulations, requesting new equipment and student non-participation, if required.

DATA DRIVEN

  • Provide frequent and timely feedback to students and parents on student behavior, injuries, sportsmanship, etc.
  • Create, maintain and collect accurate and complete student records as required by law and Ingenium Schools’ policies (e.g., coach will monitor, manage and track: student attendance, sports waivers, doctor's notes / fitness tests, permission slips, uniform issuance, etc.)
  • Maintain student confidentiality at all times

COLLABORATION

  • Adhere to policies as stated in the Ingenium Schools Policies and Procedures Manual and in subsequent Ingenium Schools trainings and meetings
  • Confer with students and parents outside of the instructional day to resolve students’ behavioral, injury, concerns, and/or other issues, as needed
  • Maintain and improve professional competence and participate in professional development opportunities
  • Actively participate in team meetings and serve on staff committees, school-wide events, parent workshops, and community partnership events, as needed
  • Assist with school/organizational events, general supervision, extra-curricular support, tutoring, etc., as needed
  • Perform related duties as assigned


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalent
  • 2-4 years of experience and/ or Associate Degree, in early childhood education and/or
  • development highly
  • Experience working with children of varied ages highly
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (training given, if needed)


KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

Must have the ability to demonstrate and/or show competency in the following areas:

  • Supervising youth and presenting positive role modeling through all interactions with program
  • Meeting program goals as outlined in the Ingenium Schools Policies and Procedures Manual, and ASP Program

  • Being reliable and maintaining attendance and punctuality
  • Working a flexible schedule to meet program staffing/planning
  • Exercising mature judgment and sound decision
  • Communicating effectively both orally and in writing
  • Learning, following and enforcing campus and Ingenium Schools guidelines related to internal policies and procedures


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift 40 pounds using proper technique
  • Must have adequate vision to effectively review documents in varied formats e.g. paper and digital
  • Must have adequate hearing to respond to and interact with the public
  • Ability to stand for up to 5 hours
  • Ability to run up to 100 yards
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance
