The current Chair will step down at the end of the 2025/2026 financial year, with a formal vote by Trustees in early 2026. This is a unique opportunity to influence the charity’s future direction before stepping into the Chair role.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the Board, ensuring maximum impact for beneficiaries.
- Oversee effective governance, risk management and financial accountability.
- Develop the Board’s skills, knowledge and diversity to strengthen governance.
- Act as an ambassador and spokesperson, building relationships with funders and stakeholders.
- Represent Advance at external events and high-profile engagements.
- Chair Board meetings effectively, fostering collaboration and shared decision-making.
- Work closely with the CEO, offering support while ensuring accountability.
- Lead the CEO’s annual appraisal and support their professional development.
- Proven senior leadership experience with a strategic and delivery mindset. Advance is particularly interested in candidates from a technology, digital or startup background (e.g., CTO, CIO).
- Strong background in governance, financial oversight, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in chairing meetings—must have been a Committee Chair but not necessarily a Board Chair.
- Ability to influence, inspire and lead, with confidence in high-level discussions.
- A deep understanding of the voluntary and community sector. Proactive, engaged, and committed—not someone who just “turns up to meetings.”
- 4 Board meetings per year (16:00 – 19:00, London)
- 1 Strategy Away Day per year (full-day Saturday, London)
- 6 sub-committee meetings in Year 1 (Online, 16:00 – 18:30)
- Regular meetings with the Chair & CEO
- Attendance at key stakeholder events
