Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Accountant and Costpoint Administrator to join our team. This position plays a key role in managing and maintaining the Deltek Costpoint accounting system, supporting the operations of the company’s accounting functions, and ensuring compliance with cost accounting standards, government regulations, and best practices. The Senior Cost Accountant will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Costpoint, oversee accounting tasks related to project management, billing, and revenue recognition, and lead the month-end close processes. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, particularly in government contracting environments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- System Administration: Serve as the Costpoint System Administrator, configuring and managing daily operations across Deltek Costpoint modules, including Project Accounting, Time & Expense, and Business Intelligence.
- Costpoint Implementation & Maintenance: Manage the setup and ongoing maintenance of Costpoint Project Control, ensuring that projects are properly configured for cost tracking, billing, and revenue recognition.
- System Updates: Stay current on Deltek product updates, patches, and new features, evaluating their impact and recommending necessary changes or upgrades to the system.
- Project Setup: Enter new project information into Costpoint, applying it to the appropriate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and ensuring accurate configuration for labor, expenses, billing, and revenue.
- Employee Support: Provide guidance and support to employees regarding system access, timesheets, and expense reports in Costpoint.
- Contract Review: Review contract details to ensure accurate project setup in Costpoint, supporting labor and expense tracking, billing, revenue recognition, and progress payments.
- Month-End Close: Lead the month-end close cycle, ensuring all journal entries are processed, reconciliations are completed, and financial statements are prepared and accurate.
- Cost Analysis & Reporting: Prepare Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC) reports, tracking inception-to-date costs, contract costs, billing, progress payments, and revenue.
- Payroll & Labor Distribution: Audit timesheets, manage leave accruals, troubleshoot discrepancies, and process payroll runs. Create and upload payroll files into ADP and integrate them into the general ledger system.
- Labor Distribution Reclassification: Process all labor distribution reclassification/adjustment journals, ensuring accurate allocation of labor and fringe benefits.
- Audit Support: Assist with the preparation and submission of Model Incurred Cost Proposals (ICPs) and serve as a liaison with external auditors and regulatory authorities during audits.
- Staff Mentoring: Mentor junior accounting staff, promoting best practices and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Ad-Hoc Reporting: Perform additional duties, ad-hoc reporting, and financial analysis as required.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in cost accounting, with a focus on government contracting.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (advanced), and Deltek Costpoint (version 8). Familiarity with Costpoint Time & Expense, Costpoint Accounting Software, and Costpoint Enterprise Reporting.
- System Expertise: In-depth experience supporting and administering Deltek Costpoint, with the ability to train and support end users within the organization.
Compensation Range: $75,000-$115,000 depending up on experience.
Work setting: Can be onsite in San Diego or Virginia Beach or can be fully remote.
