Position Overview

The Business Development Manager for Bioplastic markets is charged to develop business opportunities within Americas continental territory for Advanced Polymer Technology (APT) product line of Bioplastics. Main objective is to increase sales and profitability for strategic business group. Duties also include management and development of the business development pipeline and interaction with Innovation and Marketing teams to grow our business through focused technical and business development activities.

This position will collaborate and seek customer success through identifying, developing, and securing new opportunities to expand our sales. Alongside sales is the successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with Account Managers as potential sales opportunities are converted to recurring revenue to ensure a seamless transition for the ongoing success of the specified project.

It is a unique opportunity to shape the way Ingevity’s APT business strategically develops in the Americas region, placing you at the forefront of this innovative business. Full-time, remote position is Home-office based reporting to Americas Business Manager with a high degree of travel to prospects and customer sites.

How You Will Impact Ingevity

  • Generate, qualify and develop leads, aligned with the business strategy to deliver future growth
  • Effectively engage potential customers to learn more about their unmet needs and buying process; challenge customers to consider new ways of enhancing their success
  • Utilize public and business sources for competitive and customer information that allows a deep understanding of the market.
  • Customer research to allow identify potential opportunities to sell
  • Present information that enables the prospective customer to clearly understand the value proposition of potential solutions and how these solutions can help the customer be successful
  • Steward the customer’s development, evaluation and decision-making to maximize success rates
  • Identify opportunities and act to strengthen Ingevity’s position in the eyes of the customer
  • Develop strong trust and credibility with all key players impacting the customer’s buying process
  • Collaborate with Innovation and Marketing to generate information and value proposition.
  • Collaborate with Account Representatives to close sales.
  • Use Opportunity Management processes and our CRM system to effectively prioritize, track and drive sales opportunities
  • Collaborate with internal resources to ensure Opportunities are provided with the required resources to ensure timely movement through our business development process
  • Cultivate a broad network of relationships across the value chain and within the customer organizations beyond procurement (e.g., Operations, Technology, Senior Leadership, Marketing, etc.) to enable successful development of new business.
  • Customer visits & opportunities to be documented in CRM tool

What You Need To Succeed

  • Bachelors, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Plastics or Resins related studies, from an accredited college or university is required. Masters, or PhD is a plus.
  • Advanced sales and new business development experience (10 years).
  • Experience in Bioplastics as well as knowledge of Thermoplastic and Biodegradable resin markets is a must. Polyurethane and CASE markets knowledge are a plus.
  • Specialty Chemical market and Bio resins knowledge.
  • Strong track record of successful business development success.
  • Strong communication skills for internal and external correspondence.
  • Strong technical, market and customer strategy and planning experience.
  • Experience with CRM (eg. Salesforce) and other sales systems and tools
  • This role is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. The successful candidate must not now, or in the future, require sponsorship to work in the US.
