The Continuous Improvement (CI) Engineer is responsible for supporting and leading the CI strategy at the facility. This position will utilize lean and six-sigma tools to work with the various area owners and upper management of the facility to collect, prioritize, and execute on various product, process, or system improvement projects.

How you will impact Ingevity :

Continuous Improvement (80%)

  • Advocate and drive cultural transformation across site and lead process improvement projects & initiatives using lean principles to drive towards more efficient and effective processes and systems.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement, being an innovator of positive change that impacts safety, profitability, inventory turns, on-time delivery, lead-time, and quality.
  • Lead corporate and site-specific CI training and assist as needed with developing further training as required.
  • Analyze problems, account for variances, drive for root causes, and implement improved methods and procedures. Create, review, and update improvement plans. Utilize problem solving skills and lead cross functional teams to address issues or gaps in the plant and take corrective / preventative actions, as necessary.
  • Execute the lean strategy for the organization focused on each value stream and subsequently drive implementation.
  • Implement tools and metrics to improve visibility to operational health and lean performance. Execute lean manufacturing initiatives including set-up reduction, workplace organization, standardized work, process / workflow improvements, and visual management, and inventory reduction.
  • Develop, track, and communicate CI metrics, as required.
  • Assist with and utilize statistical process control tools to evaluate and improve processes. Apply six-sigma tools and knowledge to drive processes (production and business) toward sustained profitability while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality
  • Prepare reports, summaries, or presentations with improvement recommendations and activities
  • Ensure product compliance with current specifications and requirements
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

Resolve escalated issues arising from operations, coordinate with other departments, and use technical innovation, teamwork, and good listening skills to bring about positive improvements Ability to positively influence others through high personal standards and operating discipline Ability to influence and support cultural and transformational changes in the plant Exemplifies safety procedures and wears appropriate PPE Effective verbal and written communication skills

Quality Laboratory Support (20%)

  • Generate critical analytical data to support activated carbon product and plant development and process improvement efforts at our global manufacturing facilities
  • Conduct materials characterization and specialized testing on activated carbon-based products
  • Support analytical equipment integrity and maintenance for minimal interruptions in analytical capability
  • Support day-to-day activities when needed
  • Focus on quality with compliance to laboratory IATF / ISO requirements
  • What you need to succeed :

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, Quality, or a related field
  • 1-5 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • 1-2 year of experience leading and utilize lean and six-sigma tools
  • Knowledge of chemical processes and methodologies not required, but is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot chemical processes
  • Yellow or Green Belt Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent demonstrated expertise preferred
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications : Word, Excel, and Access
  • Excellent communication skills and able to work in a team-oriented atmosphere
  • Ability to handle multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of SAP, Proficy, Minitab is a plus
