Eaton RESA Adult Education
The Eaton RESA Adult Education program is dedicated to increasing work skills, literacy levels and high school equivalency credentials for adults in Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties at no cost to the learner.
AmeriCorps VISTA Member:
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program which places service members in local nonprofits for a year to serve the community and grow professionally.
The VISTA Member will work to boost long-term enrollment and completion rates in adult education by addressing key barriers, enhancing educational opportunities, and increasing involvement in children's education. Project will include building out new and enhanced community partnerships, recruiting volunteer tutors, writing a project proposal for an incarcerated adults read-aloud project, and establishing worksite classrooms.
Essential Duties:
- Recruit volunteer tutors and mentors for adult education programming, and match to students based on skills and interests
- Build out tracking system for volunteer hours and other data
- Develop comprehensive resource documents for adult learners, including local support services
- Work with partner organizations to develop a cross-referral system for adult education and preschool programs
- Partner with local and national corporations to establish worksite classrooms to give students hands-on work experience
- Research local initiatives to involve adult learners in children's educational activities and mentoring, including within jails – draft project proposal involving
- incarcerated adults recording read-aloud stories for their kids
Recommended Qualifications:
- Comfortable with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Some experience in an office environment
- Some experience leading projects
- Reliable vehicle or transportation
