GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides strong customer service and welcomes guests to the Ingham County Medical Care Facility. Performs general support tasks for the admissions office and/or business office such as typing, record keeping, and maintaining a high customer service program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interacts in a tactful diplomatic and humanistic manner with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers to provide a safe, efficient, and therapeutically caring environment which ensures the self-respect, personal dignity, rights, and physical safety of each resident and facility guest.
- Maintains and orders supplies for the unit and residents.
- Performs a variety of related support tasks such as preparing reports, maintaining manuals, making copies, sorting resident mail, filing medical records and others.
- Serves as receptionist for assigned unit(s), including responding to family and resident inquiries or requests for assistance under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.
- Provides COVID communication updates to staff and community as directed by the COVID-19 Response Team.
- Protects privacy and maintains confidentiality of all company procedures, results, and information about employees, participants, clients, and families.
- Schedules patients for beauty shop services.
- Effectively addresses and resolves resident/customer concerns and/or complaints.
- Welcomes visitors and leads them to the proper location.
- Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS):
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least one (1) year of medical clerical experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work effectively under time requirements and deadlines, problem-solve when facing unexpected issues, handle interruptions, and prioritize effectively.
- Strong critical thinking, decision-making, delegation, and leadership skills.
- Time management and organizational skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
- Ability to transfer residents weighing up to three hundred (300) pounds or more.
- Push/pull wheeled carts and chairs weighing up to three hundred (300) pounds or more.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8–10-hour shift.
- Use a computer keyboard, monitor, mouse, and calculator. Fax machines, printers, and other office equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
- Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials.
- Unpredictable mealtimes: breaks are scheduled around resident care needs.
- Every other weekend, Holidays and weekdays as needed.
