POSITION: 7-12th School Counselor/Student Support Services
BUILDING(S) Junior/Senior High School
STARTING DATE: As Soon As Possible/2025-2026 School Year
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SALARY: Per SEA Contract
GOAL:
Provide a comprehensive guidance program meeting the needs of 7th – 12th grade students promoting academic, personal, social and career development while supporting building administration in operations to further benefit all students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Licensed master’s level professional counselor degree OR a limited licensed master’s level professional counselor (will work under the supervision of a licensed master’s level professional counselor)
2) Experience in scheduling using PowerSchool or a similar program
3) Experience in personal and crisis counseling.
4) Experience with 504 plans, attendance interventions, and alternative education pathways
5) Valid teaching certificate
6) Successful previous guidance counseling experience and/or teaching experience
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Experience in providing academic guidance and career planning services
2) Ability to collaborate with staff to provide student supports
3) Demonstrate experience and skill working with students in secondary grade ranges
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Conduct developmental guidance lessons in the classroom and in small groups.
2) Facilitate the integration of the guidance curriculum into the educational curriculum.
3) Select topics and resources consistent with building identified objectives.
4) Plan and organize activities to support students’ transition to the Jr High School.
5) Assist students with developing educational goals.
6) Provide school-to-career guidance activities using resources.
7) Follows policies, procedures, and all other ethical practices and requirements while working with students.
8) Remain up-to-date with current professional trends.
9) Assist with building of the master schedule and entering student schedules into PowerSchool.
10) Work in conjunction with students and staff in support of at risk advising and peer mediation.
11) Collaborate with parents/guardians, students, and staff to facilitate student success.
12) Mentor responsibilities with Michigan Virtual students.
13) Punctual, reliable and predictable attendance is required.
14) Other duties as assigned.
