Position: Special Education Coach
Reports to: Director of Special Education and Student Supports
Position Summary: The Special Education Coach will support and guide special education teachers, general education teachers, and school staff to ensure the effective implementation of special education programs and practices. This role involves providing professional development, coaching, and mentoring to enhance instructional strategies, improve student outcomes, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. This position will follow the school year calendar, plus 3 additional weeks (2 weeks prior to the start of school, 1 week after the end of school).
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Support:
- Collaborate with special education teachers to develop and implement effective instructional strategies tailored to individual student needs.
- Provide coaching and modeling of best practices in special education instruction and behavior management.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and ensure alignment with educational goals and standards.
- Professional Development:
- Plan and deliver professional development sessions for special education and general education staff on topics related to special education practices, differentiated instruction, and inclusive education.
- Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and ongoing professional learning communities to enhance teacher knowledge and skills.
- Data Analysis and Program Evaluation:
- Support teachers in collecting, analyzing, and using student data to inform instructional practices and measure student progress.
- Collaborate with school leadership to evaluate the effectiveness of special education programs and interventions, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with general education teachers, administrators, and other school staff to promote inclusive practices and ensure a supportive learning environment for all students.
- Serve as a liaison between the special education department and other school departments, facilitating communication and collaboration.
- Provide guidance and support to parents and guardians regarding their child's special education services and progress.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure that all special education services and practices are in compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Assist in the preparation and review of required documentation, reports, and records related to special education services and student progress.
Knowledge, Skills, Education and Abilities Required:
- Education and Certification:
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience:
- Minimum of five years of experience in special education, including classroom teaching and case management, strongly preferred.
- Proven experience in coaching, mentoring, and providing professional development to educators.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data analysis and the use of data to inform instructional practices.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and support to teachers in a collaborative and non-evaluative manner.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
