General Summary
In accordance with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the Vocal Music Teacher is responsible for instruction of students in the area of music education, with an emphasis on the instruction of choral music at the 6-12 grade level. As a member of the professional staff, the music teacher has responsibilities in the areas of instruction, curriculum development, classroom management and student, parent, community and staff relations.

- Demonstrates consistent and effective management of student behavior.
- Demonstrates professional conduct and exhibits professional growth.
- Uses district goals and objectives to plan and implement a cohesive curriculum.
- Communicates well with a variety of audiences both verbally and in writing.
- Has the ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Evaluates students effectively, providing meaningful and timely feedback and using the evaluation data to monitor and adjust instruction.
- Fulfills duties of classroom teacher (record keeping, attendance, grading).
- Establishes effective relationships with parents, community, and other staff members.
- Carries out the required management tasks of a professional staff member (i.e. grading, attendance, conferences, etc.).
- Holds the ability to plan and carry out additional extracurricular performances such as concerts, festival, etc.
- Completes any other duties or responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the administration.
Education, Knowledge and Skills Required
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a K-12 music endorsement required either a JX or JQ endorsement
- Outstanding musicianship; Strong individual instrument pedagogical skills; Effective podium/rehearsal skills
- Enthusiasm and passion to interpret and teach the art of vocal music
- Ability to instruct and manage in a vocal music program with multiple choirs and skill abilities.
- Skills in recruiting, maintaining enrollment in a 6th -12th grade program
- Ability and desire to carry out all duties of the position.
