POSITION: Williamston High School Musical Head Director
REPORTS TO: High School Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Extensive experience in musical theater production and direction
- Strong understanding of all aspects of musical theater, including acting, music, choreography, and technical production
- Strong management skills; communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Experience managing large groups of students with varying levels of experience and maturity
- Availability on nights and weekends, especially the weeks leading up to performances
- Bachelor's degree in Theater, Music, Education, or related field preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Choose a production annually and obtain scripts and performance rights from licensing companies
- Interpret the script and music to shape the overall creative direction of the production
- Plan and conduct auditions, thoughtfully assigning roles to student performers
- Oversee and coordinate with directors, choreographers, and musicians to structure rehearsals
- Guide actors, singers, and dancers, coaching them on technique, character development, and stage presence
- Oversee and collaborate with the choreographer, tech director, costumer, and oversee props, makeup, and set design
- Encourage and mentor performers and crew, teaching professionalism, teamwork, and responsibility
- Mediate conflicts and ensure a supportive, positive rehearsal environment
- Run final rehearsals and ensure smooth transitions into live performances
- Oversee set strike, organize materials for future shows, and celebrate student achievement
SALARY: 7% per the WEA Contract Appendix A
STARTING DATE: 2025-26 school year
