Description

Job Summary: This individual will be responsible for the design, specification, installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and automation equipment in order to improve system operation/uptime and reduce total operating costs.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Electrical Maintenance and Repairs

  • Install, maintain, and enhance electrical systems and components. Conduct maintenance, alterations, repairs, and installations of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures per NEC standards.
  • Ensure all work meets applicable NEC electrical codes, NFPA specifications, blueprints, and standards.
  • Install new or upgraded electrical equipment and systems for construction, tenant finishing, and remodeling projects.

Mentor and Coach Lower-Level Technicians

  • Provide hands-on training and guidance to lower-level technicians, ensuring they understand and follow safety protocols and standard practices in electrical work.
  • Conduct regular skill assessments to identify areas for improvement and tailor mentoring sessions to address specific needs.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Assist lower-level technicians in interpreting blueprints, sketches, and schematics to plan and execute electrical projects effectively.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment that encourages questions, promotes knowledge sharing, and builds confidence.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular updates to the Project Manager/Master Electrician on the development and performance of lower-level technicians.
  • Encourage adherence to IPS’s Core Values and Sustainability Policies, reinforcing the importance of safety, quality, and customer service in all aspects of electrical work.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Deliver outstanding customer service to customers and other contractors, aligning with IPS’s engagement strategies.
  • Coordinate installation, maintenance, and repair work with other trades areas.
  • Draft evaluations and make recommendations to the Project Manager/Master Electrician.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare work plans using blueprints, sketches, and schematics.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and submit completed work orders promptly.
  • Prepare cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule for emergency projects and weekend shifts.

Qualifications


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience with a responsible attitude for personal safety and the safety of co-workers, contractors & the public
  • Valid Texas Electrical Journeyman’s License.
  • 3-5 years Electrical experience
  • Must fully understand local, National Electrical code (NEC) codes and NFPA specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent diagnostic and repair skills for complex problems in automation systems
  • Exceptional knowledge of automation host systems
  • Expert in using test equipment pertaining to job, including oscilloscope, function generators, radio service monitor, etc.
  • Able to perform general PM work: testing end devices, temperature shutdowns, pressure switches, level shutdowns.
  • Running rigid conduit
  • Pulling wire or running CLX
  • Wiring motors
  • Installing and wiring lighting
  • Installing and wiring transmitters
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of motor control circuits
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of VFD failures
  • Operate mini excavators, forklifts, and trenchers.
  • Skillful in reading electronic schematics, identifying components, and understanding their functions.
  • Able to calibrate and troubleshoot automation end devices.
  • Able to read, program, install and troubleshoot complex PLC programs.
  • Good computer skills
  • Demonstrated initiative-taker with the drive and initiative to challenge the status quo.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact effectively with team members and other groups.
  • Requires the ability to embrace, support, and integrate IPS’s philosophies to promote and demonstrate its commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism

  • Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy and hazardous areas.
  • Stand and walk for log periods of time.
  • Work in high places, tight places, confined spaces and/or other adverse locations.
  • Climb, balance, squat, kneel and crouch.
  • Work in all types of weather.
  • Must have working knowledge and usage of all trade materials and tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry 51 to 75 lbs. occasionally, and/or 31 to 45 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 16 to 22 pounds of force constantly to move objects

 

Travel:

Travel, as appropriate and necessary, to support specific projects.
