Job Summary:
The Powerline Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the construction, maintenance, and repair of powerline infrastructure supporting oil and gas operations. This role ensures that high-voltage transmission and distribution systems are installed and maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage the installation, repair, and maintenance of high-voltage powerlines, substations, and related infrastructure.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure project timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Review construction plans, blueprints, and technical specifications for powerline installations.
- Direct and oversee powerline crews, including linemen, foremen, and subcontractors.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide on-the-job training to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Foster a culture of safety and teamwork within the crew.
- Ensure all work is performed following OSHA, NESC, and other applicable safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and audits to minimize risks.
- Develop and enforce job-specific safety plans and hazard mitigation strategies.
- Supervise the construction and installation of power poles, towers, transformers, and electrical components.
- Ensure proper stringing, sagging, and tensioning of powerlines.
- Inspect and troubleshoot electrical systems, resolving any technical issues that arise.
- Coordinate equipment, tools, and materials to ensure availability and proper use at job sites.
- Manage project budgets, labor hours, and resource allocation effectively.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to secure timely delivery of materials.
- Maintain accurate records of work progress, material usage, and safety reports.
- Prepare and submit daily progress reports to project management and stakeholders.
- Document as-built conditions and ensure compliance with turnover requirements.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or degrees in electrical or construction management are a plus.
- 8 years of experience in powerline construction or maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of high-voltage transmission and distribution systems.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards, including NESC, IEEE, and OSHA regulations.
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage large teams in field environments.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using project management and field reporting tools.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and in remote or rugged locations.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Work Environment:
- Primarily field-based, with extended periods at construction or maintenance sites.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, high-voltage equipment, and heights.
- May require rotational schedules or extended hours to meet project demands.
- This is a full-time position with working hours scheduled during various hours.
