Job Summary

Represent clients in Virginia workers’ compensation litigation and manage or advise clients on legal transactions. Specialize in workers’ compensation cases.


Education and Experience

· Juris Doctor degree (Required)


Essential Job Duties

· Handle workers’ compensation case files from start to finish.

· Evaluate potential workers’ compensation claims and provide legal advice to people accordingly.

· Draft, review, and/or modify motions, discovery responses, demand letters, pleadings, subpoenas, memorandums, and other legal documents.

· Research case law and review evidence relevant to the case.

· Communicate with clients, expert witnesses, insurance company adjusters, supporting witnesses, and medical providers to gather information.

· Negotiate suitable agreements and settle on the clients’ behalf when appropriate.

· Represent the client at hearings, trials, mediations, and depositions.

· Document and update the status of all case files in the case management software.

· Oversee case management and supervise your team.

· Prepare for trial: conduct pre-trial depositions of experts and key witnesses; prepare trial exhibits; and draft pre-trial pleadings.

· Perform administrative and management functions related to the practice of law.

· Identify coverage sources.

· Law and Government - Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.

· Pace and Scheduling - Ability to work at a fast pace. Working on a timeline with coworkers and the lead attorney based on case deadlines.

· Reading Comprehension- Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

· Speaking- Talking to others to convey information effectively.

· Leadership- Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work.

· Time Management- Managing one's own time and the time of others.

· Writing- Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

· Complex Problem Solving- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

· Negotiation - Bringing others together and trying to reconcile differences.

· Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
