Job Sumary:
The PEARLS Counselor provides direct and indirect Program to Encourage Active and Rewarding Lives (PEARLS) services to older adults in Riverside County utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy principles under the direction of the PEARLS Clinical Supervisor of ICRC.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Visits clients in home to provide PEARLS services in region assigned in Riverside County.
- Assists clients in clarifying needs, helps identify needed services to impact their current needs through use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy principles. Develops a plan with client and works toward resolution of problems identified in the plan.
- Conducts an extensive amount of outreach to locate and screen potential participants.
- Uses clinical skills to provide a supportive relationship in the resolution of problems.
- Makes referrals to appropriate community resources and makes direct links to community services on behalf of clients when deemed appropriate and necessary.
- Assesses needs and appropriateness of clients for PEARLS and other ICRC services.
- Collects and records, in writing, required client information in a clear, concise, organized, grammatically correct, and timely manner. Uses computer programs and data entry systems to create, update, and document activity in client’s file including proprietary database management systems, and Microsoft Word.
- Initiates follow-up calls to provide ongoing support and focus on client’s progress on treatment plan. Works toward resolution of problems identified in the client’s treatment plan.
- Manages difficult and/or emotional client situations. Responds promptly to client’s needs.
- Participates in family meetings as needed with ICRC Family Consultants.
- Travels throughout Riverside County service region appointed providing PEARLS services to family caregivers and older adults.
- Stays current in completing reassessments on active clients. Organizes and manages an agreed case load along with a work load.
- Participates in case consultation with a Psychiatrist and Clinical Supervisor regarding case load.
- Accurately completes required service and program reports and assists with other data collection/ reporting mechanisms as necessary.
- Completes time sheet and mileage reports.
- Completes any other duties assigned by leadership.
Additional Job Duties and Activities
- Works closely with Family Consultants and Intake Specialists in identifying perspective PEARLS clients.
- Works effectively as a team member through participation in regular case conference.
- Brings interesting and /or difficult cases to case conference for sharing and “brainstorming” with other PEARLS Counselors, Clinical Supervisor and Psychiatrist.
- Participates in at least one (1) networking meeting a month and shares pertinent information obtained with other ICRC staff members.
- Participates in agency in-service training and outside educational opportunities as available and pertinent to job responsibilities.
- Participates in regular supervisory conferences to review work.
- Participates in Staff Meetings.
- Participates in Outreach events and Health Fairs.
- Assists in maintaining resource information.
- Effectively express the concept of ICRC’s programs to provide outreach and community presentations.
- Assist in the identification of service gaps through I&R, Intake and needs assessment processes as well as through outreach, networking and other community-oriented activities. Identifies those service gaps to the Executive Director and Clinical Supervisor when appropriate.
- Participates in the development of new and needed programs through outreach, coordination advice and consultation, and other community social service activities.
- Learns and applies new & revised, job-related information/procedures with routine training.
- Carries out procedures to ensure that work completed is error-free.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field is preferred.
Professional Experience
- At least two years’ experience in social services working with older adults.
- At least two years’ experience performing counseling and case management preferred.
Travel Requirements
- Position requires driving your own vehicle, possessing a valid California Driver’s License, and having your own car insurance as per State law.
- Must be able to access clients at all locations served by ICRC. Position requires driving whenever necessary to meet all clients’ needs.
Technical Knowledge
- Proficient in PC usage, internet usage, and typing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to successfully learn and use any technology platforms or programs as required by the Agency.
- Competent with technical equipment required to make presentations in the community, i.e., projector, laptop, etc.

- Must have a general understanding of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy principles.
- Must be comfortable with doing extensive outreach to locate and screen potential clients as well as conduct PEARLS sessions in the homes of clients.

Environmental Conditions
- Works in an office environment. Exposure to regular noise levels from office equipment and voices. When working in the field, employee will be exposed to natural weather conditions.
