Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology and coding systems, including ICD-10, and will be responsible for accurately coding patient records to ensure proper billing and compliance with healthcare regulations. This role is essential in maintaining the integrity of medical records and facilitating efficient medical billing processes. Hematology/Oncology is HIGHLY preferred.
Duties
- Review and analyze patient medical records to extract relevant information for coding purposes.
- Assign appropriate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-9 and other coding systems.
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations and guidelines related to medical coding and billing practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure accurate coding.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding updates, and industry standards.
- Assist in the resolution of coding-related inquiries and discrepancies in billing.
- Support the medical office team with tasks related to medical collection and record management.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting with a focus on medical coding or billing.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, DRG (Diagnosis Related Group), and various coding systems.
- Proficiency in ICD-10 coding practices; additional knowledge in Oncology/Hematology
- Familiarity with medical records management systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for accurate code assignment.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Certification in Medical Coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is mandatory.
