Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mental health nursing practices and be committed to providing high-quality patient care in a supportive environment. This role involves working with patients experiencing various psychiatric conditions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring adherence to treatment plans while maintaining the highest standards of care.
This position contributes to the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, educational and quality improvement efforts, while providing guidance and supervision to nursing staff. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of staff working the units.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Washington State or hold a compact license granting privileges in Washington State.
- Two (2) years’ experience as a registered nurse in a psychiatric health care facility
- BLS, Handle with Care, Verbal De-escalation, and Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR) certifications, provided by INBH

- Bachelor’s Degree
- Supervisory/managerial experience
SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
All functions are essential functions unless otherwise noted. The job functions of this position are not limited to the duties listed below.
- Constantly evaluate the current process in place, consistently using a team effort, to make improvements and updates to the process of continuity of care and evaluation of patients/customer satisfaction.
- Ensure that communication between shifts is ongoing and that shift report is written using appropriate descriptors, that it is precise and informative. Further ensures that shift change report contains all hand off communication regarding acuity as well as medical issues.
- Communication during the off hours (when the CEO/CFO are not on duty) to the AOC regarding all necessary information to ensure safety needs is also a specific administrative responsibility to this position. This same information will also be communicated to CNO.
- The expectation is that the House Supervisor will spend a specific amount of their time on the unit to ensure good practice, follow up with staff, provide ongoing support, and be a resource person for staff.
- Ensures that patient education regarding medication is ongoing and monitored through assigned audits. This includes Pharmacy specific education through staff training as needed.
- Ensure that any medication variances are documented with accuracy and timeliness and reported through set protocol.
- Ensures that the observation sheets are signed by the RN Lead indicating that the observations are taking place as assigned and the observation sheets have been completed accurately and timely.
- Ensure completion by assigned night shift staff of the night shift audit tool and that the corrective deficiency protocol is followed.
- In conjunction with the Nurse Manager, will help to develop accurate audit tools.
- Ensure reporting of critical test and lab values as per hospital policy.
- Ensure shift staff assignments are in coordination with unit admissions, working with Intake and discharges.
- Ensure documentation of staff assignments through daily shift use of the staff assignment sheet, that the daily assignment sheet is completed correctly.
- Participate in treatment planning as a House Supervisor facilitator. Demonstrate knowledge of clinical programming and philosophy.
- Participate in process improvement as it relates to Quality, Risk Management, and safety.
- Ensures knowledge of personnel issues. Participate in interviewing and supervision. Consults with Director of Human Resources as needed and in matters that relate to employee discipline and performance improvement.
- Perform employee evaluations on assigned staff
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour
