Inner Banks Legal Services, a pioneering sliding-scale law firm in Eastern North Carolina, is seeking a dedicated Immigration Attorney to join our team. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, our mission is to provide affordable access to justice, focusing on making a positive impact on families in Eastern North Carolina, particularly in the rural Inner Banks region. We aim to bridge the access gap between Legal Aid and private attorneys, recognizing the challenges vulnerable populations face in accessing legal support.

Position Overview:

As an Immigration Attorney, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal representation to immigrants and refugees. Responsibilities include case intake, establishing case strategy, drafting and filing petitions/applications, client communication, and managing status reports. In addition to immigration law, you will have the flexibility to address other legal areas as needed to best serve our immigrant communities.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school, active membership in good standing with the North Carolina Bar, and a strong understanding of immigration law including a minimum of 2 years experience.
  • Familiarity with immigration laws, policies, procedures, and relevant forms/legal databases.
  • Compassion, empathy, and a genuine commitment to serving vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, legal professionals, and community organizations.
  • Capacity to work independently, manage a caseload, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Commitment to social justice, empathy for immigrants and refugees, and dedication to serving marginalized communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal representation in various immigration proceedings, including U & T visas, asylum, deportation defense, family-based petitions, and other visas.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients in immigration court, interviews, and legal proceedings.
  • Offer legal advice, consultations, and guidance to clients on immigration laws and procedures.
  • Prepare and review legal documents for immigration cases.
  • Stay updated with changes in immigration laws and policies through research and analysis.
  • Collaborate with legal staff, pro bono attorneys, and community organizations to support the mission of Inner Banks Legal Services.
  • Conduct outreach activities, workshops, and presentations to educate immigrant communities about their rights and available legal resources.

Location:

Our office is located at 130A East 2nd Street, Washington, NC. This position will require travel for hearings and proceedings throughout the state.
