OVERVIEW:
The Housing Coordinator plays a pivotal role at IMAN. This position is responsible for overseeing residential homes, supporting residents, and collaborating with Housing staff to facilitate successful transitions to permanent housing. The Housing Coordinator works closely with residents to develop and implement transition plans, ensures adherence to housing policies, and helps individuals overcome barriers in their journey towards self-sufficiency. Additionally, the Housing Coordinator supports outreach initiatives and collaborates with Green Reentry staff, other IMAN departments, and external community service providers to ensure comprehensive support for residents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Housing Management & Resident Support:
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of IMAN's Resident Housing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Provide direct support to Housing staff and engage daily in meetings to address housing needs.
  • Create and nurture an intentional, faith-based, and healing community within the residential homes.
  • Work one-on-one with residents to create and implement personalized transition plans.
  • Assist residents with overcoming challenges and achieving milestones toward permanent housing.
  • Ensure residents attend all Green Reentry (GRE) programming and appointments.
  • Monitor daily activities, including house chores and resident compliance with house rules.
  • Oversee visitation procedures, ensuring adherence to visitation and house policies.
Case Management & Referrals:
  • Guide residents in obtaining essential documents, such as identification, Social Security cards, and birth certificates.
  • Assist with employment readiness efforts, including GED completion and training program enrollment.
  • Participate in case consultations with case managers and other team members as necessary.
  • Support referrals and ensure follow-through for services that enhance residents' well-being.
Community Engagement & Collaboration:
  • Build strong relationships with community service providers and advocate for reentry services.
  • Facilitate the creation and implementation of community activity nights/days to encourage resident engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Behavioral Health and Case Managers to ensure comprehensive care for residents.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with local leaders, social service agencies, and correctional institutions, including IDOC and CCDOJ.
  • Support outreach and partnerships with local community organizations for resident success.
Safety, Compliance, and Emergency Procedures:
  • Maintain a visible presence in residential homes to monitor safety and compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Enforce housing policies and procedures to ensure a secure and respectful living environment.
  • Coordinate emergency response procedures and support emergency personnel as needed.
  • Ensure residents sign in and out of the home for safety and security purposes.
  • Maintain communication with security personnel to track resident locations and ensure safety.
Program Development & Monitoring:
  • Collaborate with the Housing team to design and manage housing initiatives and resident support programs.
  • Assist in developing success plans and measurable outcomes for residents, including goals for monthly, quarterly, and yearly progress.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, regulations, and standards from the City of Chicago, State of Illinois, and other applicable agencies.
  • Prepare for program monitoring by conducting quality assurance activities and ensuring documentation is complete.
Conflict Resolution & Life Skills Development:
  • Model and teach life skills to residents, supporting their personal growth and development.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and mediate disputes using restorative practices to maintain a harmonious living environment.
  • Reporting & Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all incidents, rounds, case notes, and relevant activities in the designated database.
  • Report any violations of probation or parole in accordance with IMAN’s procedures.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3-5 years of experience working with reentry or underserved populations, transitional or group home management and/or support, or faith-based social justice organizations
  • Experience working with justice-involved individuals or populations facing social, economic, or legal barriers.
  • Knowledge of housing policies, community resources, and reentry services.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in case management, housing services, or reentry support is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working with government agencies or familiarity with correctional systems and reentry support services.

  • Case Management and Client Support: The ability to manage a caseload of residents, develop personalized transition plans, and provide ongoing support to help individuals navigate the challenges of reentry.
  • Crisis Intervention: Strong skills in assessing and responding to crises, providing immediate support and resources, and managing urgent situations that may arise with residents.
  • Knowledge of Reentry Systems: Understanding of the reentry process, including challenges faced by justice-involved individuals, and the ability to connect residents with community resources and support systems.
  • Conflict Resolution and Mediation: Ability to address interpersonal conflicts between residents using restorative practices and promoting a peaceful and collaborative living environment.
  • Cultural Competency: A deep understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds and life experiences, and the ability to provide services that respect individual differences and foster inclusivity.
  • Community Outreach and Networking: Proficiency in building relationships with community service providers, government agencies, and other external stakeholders to ensure residents have access to critical resources.
  • Program Development and Implementation: Capability to design, implement, and evaluate housing and reentry programs that meet residents' needs and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Time Management and Organizational Skills: Strong ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and maintain organized systems for case documentation and reporting.
  • Safety and Compliance Management: Ability to monitor the safety and well-being of residents, enforce housing policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with regulations related to housing and reentry.
  • Empathy and Active Listening: A high level of emotional intelligence to listen attentively to residents’ needs, demonstrate empathy, and provide compassionate support throughout the reentry process.
