Gift Shop Attendants are responsible for providing a warm introduction to the guests shopping experience by assisting in the sale of memorabilia and other products as well as answer questions and make personalized recommendations for merchandise to enhance guest experience. The Attendant guides customers while maintaining the cash register, ringing sales, processing returns, and closing out the register.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Always approach all interactions with guests and employees in a friendly and service-oriented manner by maintaining a positive demeanor.
- Promote a positive and caring work environment by addressing and resolving any conflict in a calm and poised manner.
- Maintain regular attendance as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the individual property.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming which includes wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working.
- Greet guests upon arrival and make them feel welcomed, always following the 5/10 rule.
- Communicate with guests to assist in purchasing decisions and engage in suggestive selling.
- Assist in merchandising functions including display and store design, stocking, and merchandise pricing.
- Perform cash-handling functions, including point-of-sale (POS) system, registers, and daily reporting.
- Ensure retail outlet adheres to the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, and service.
- Must be capable of opening, closing, and balancing a cash register at the end of each shift, accounting for all merchandise sold. At end of shift, all cash, credit card, promo and room charges must balance against nightly reports and be handed in to hotel night audit.
- Assist with signing and receiving deliveries, recording all orders received.
- Stay current on developments within the hotel by reviewing communications to each shift.
- Show initiative in job performance by anticipating the needs of guests and team members.
- Follow all company’s policies, procedures, and meet standards.
- Must maintain a clean and safe work environment and report any safety issues to management immediately.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum 1 year of customer service experience required, hospitality industry preferred.
3. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, or scheduled form.
4. Ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English in order to communicate with guests and team members.
5. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
6. Ability to work with computers and good knowledge of operating software preferred.
7. Friendliness, problem solving, and organizational skills needed.
8. Have a strong attention to details.
9. Must be able to communicate effectively and often handle disgruntled guests and difficult situations.
10. Must be able to multi-task.
11. Must be a team player.
12.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a high degree of autonomy.
