Position Title: Director of Finance


As Director of Finance, you will be the director of a five-person team and lead financial operations and strategy, ensuring the company’s financial health and long-term stability. This role oversees daily financial activities, cash flow management, budgeting, and compliance. The ideal candidate has experience leading an accounting or finance department in a small to medium size financial services or professional services firm, with a proven record of driving financial efficiency and maintaining compliance in a fast-paced environment. As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Finance will provide strategic financial guidance, oversee financial operations, and collaborate with senior leadership.


This position will require a candidate to:


  • Oversee Daily Financial Operations – Ensure all financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting processes are executed accurately and efficiently by the accounting team, with a strong emphasis on QuickBooks for financial management.


  • Financial Strategy & Planning – Develop and implement financial strategies that align with company goals, ensuring sustainable growth and financial health.


  • Cash Flow & Liquidity Management – Monitor and manage company liquidity, optimizing cash flow strategies to ensure operational needs are met.


  • Approval & Oversight of Transactions – Review and approve the execution of major financial transactions as approved by the Management Committee, including wire transfers, ensuring compliance with internal policies.


  • Compliance – Ensure compliance with tax regulations, financial laws, and internal controls, with a strong understanding of the financial and regulatory requirements specific to financial and professional services.


  • 401(k) Plan Administration – Oversee 401(k) compliance and tax filings, ensuring timely and accurate Form 5500 filings, nondiscrimination testing, and adherence to ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations, while addressing any compliance issues or corrections as needed.


  • Payroll Compliance – Manage sales tax and payroll tax compliance, ensuring accurate filings, timely payments, and adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations while addressing any compliance issues or audits as needed.


  • Liaison with External Stakeholders – Act as the primary contact for external auditors, CPAs, banks, and regulatory agencies to ensure transparency and accountability.


  • Leadership & Team Development – Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering professional development and a culture of continuous improvement.


  • International Financial Oversight – Provide financial leadership for international operations, including the company’s London office, ensuring compliance with local regulations and financial standards.


  • Strategic Financial Decision-Making – Advise senior leadership on key financial matters, investments, and potential cost-saving initiatives.


  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Receivable Departments and Collections Strategy – Establish policies for managing past-due accounts and collections to optimize cash flow and reduce financial risk.


  • Industry-Specific Financial Expertise – Bring experience working in financial or professional services, with a deep understanding of industry-specific accounting, billing, and financial compliance requirements.


  • Year-End Tax & Audit Preparation – Ensure the timely preparation of tax schedules and audit documentation for external CPAs, minimizing tax liabilities and ensuring regulatory compliance.


  • QuickBooks System Optimization & Best Practices – Ensure efficient use of QuickBooks, identifying opportunities for automation, process improvements, and financial reporting enhancements.



Additional Requirements:


  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in a corporate office environment within a financial services or professional services firm, including at least 5 years of leadership experience overseeing an accounting department.


  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred, with a strong foundation in financial leadership and strategic decision-making.


  • Extensive experience with financial systems, including QuickBooks and/or other enterprise accounting software (e.g., Sage 100, Oracle ERP, NetSuite), with the ability to optimize and oversee financial reporting, system migrations, and system integrations.


  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel), with expertise in data analysis and executive-level reporting.


  • Exceptional written and oral business communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to senior leadership.


  • Proven ability to engage and influence at all levels, including senior leadership, clients, external auditors, and key vendors, fostering strong business relationships.


  • Strategic organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities, ensuring efficiency in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.


  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, with a record of ensuring compliance, mitigating financial risk, and maintaining data integrity.


  • U.S. employment authorization without current or future need for sponsorship.



Compensation:


A base salary will be offered commensurate with a candidate’s prior experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for the firm’s annual merit-based bonus program and will participate in its (currently) 100% employer-paid medical/dental/disability/life insurance plans and its discretionary profit-sharing 401(k) plan. Base Salary: $200,000.00 - $300,000.00.

This is a hybrid position that will require regular on-site presence, in-person training, and collaboration with other team members.
