Job Description
OUR MISSION:
Innovation (“Innovation”) Charter School nurtures and develops students to be academically successful, socially mature, emotionally healthy, and equipped to lead self-directed and fulfilling lives. PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Keeping in line with our mission, the College and Career Readiness Teacher plans, instructs, and assesses students in the rigorous college and career readiness academic program. They construct rigorous learning experiences designed to develop academic and employable skills. The College and Career Readiness Teacher provides instruction for up to 5 classes a day under the direction of the Director of CCR & CTE to prepare all students for post-secondary high school success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- New York State Teaching Certification in English Language Arts 7-12 is strongly preferred.
- Two to three years of classroom experience with at-risk youth is preferred.
Instructional Job Responsibilities:
Cultivate school core values in the student body
Create safe, supportive learning environments that encourage student collaboration, risk-taking, and advocacy. Achieve this goal by engaging students in the development of core values and competencies in every lesson, conference, assessment, and other interaction, and assure students that you believe they can achieve their goals.
Ensure that all students meet college and career learning curriculum standards
Our College and Career Readiness course curriculum incorporates research-based methods for rigorous direct instruction, project-based and experiential learning through classroom instruction. Such methods include The Writing Revolution literacy strategies and practices that encourage students to reflect deeply. CCR Teachers must develop skills in all students that are critical to achieving success in the colleges and careers of their choosing.
Create differentiated instructional plans
CCR Teachers must address the needs of our varied learners in our inclusion classrooms. They accomplish this by employing Universal Design in Learning and backward planning methodologies to create multiple entry points in their curriculum that engage all students through lessons aligned to college and career readiness standards.
Use data to increase student performance on internal and national assessments
CCR Teachers work with their Department Team and CCR Department Chair to analyze data from NWEA MAP testing, Regents exams, college entrance exams, and Internal Interim Assessments, as well as formative assessments, to adjust the instructional plan and meet the needs of students performing on various levels.
Participate in all College and Career Readiness events and committees
The college and career readiness student experience from 9th through 12th grade includes yearly events and school-wide committees designed to achieve our mission. Under the supervision of the CCR Department Chair, CCR Teachers actively plan, organize, and participate in the following: college campus tours, annual student service projects, college application process, Career Exploration, and college entrance exam preparation, and in the Site Team, for school-wide implementation.
Complete professional development goals
The College and Career Readiness Teacher works collectively with their Principal, Department Chair, and Professional Development Coordinator to continue developing their professional prowess and service students by taking an active part in professional learning opportunities both onsite and at external venues.

Evaluation
The CCR Teacher performance is formally appraised during evaluation cycles that occur at least twice during the school year. Appraisals are transparent, collaborative, intended to promote professional growth, and based on the accomplishment of the major goals and responsibilities outlined above.

This is a full-time position. Salary is highly competitive and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
