Job Description

Summary:
The Culinary Arts Teacher & WBL Coordinator plans, implements, and evaluates the school’s culinary arts program to maintain our Career and Technical Education (“CTE”) certified program. Students who complete the program will graduate from high school with a culinary arts CTE accreditation. The CARTS program embraces all students, including students with IEPs and at-risk students, who develop skills that are useful in academic disciplines and in the workplace. Innovation was the first charter school in NYC to become CTE-certified.
Instructional Job Responsibilities:
- Teaching 4-5 courses in culinary and pastry arts, including baking labs
- Preparing lesson plans for instruction, developing program syllabi, goals, and objectives
- Maintaining program certification requirements
- Maintaining knowledge of current trends through professional development
- Ensuring the health and safety of all culinary arts students
- Managing and submitting purchase requests
- Managing culinary arts equipment and supplies
- Assisting in school events involving the culinary arts
- Assisting with the weekly after-school Culinary Arts Club
Work-Based Learning Job Responsibilities:
- Working to expand our network of partnerships and internship placements
- Implementing WBL activities to enable students to develop job readiness skills
- Developing students' skills through guidance, workshops, and classes to enable them to thrive in internships and employment.
- Supporting and participating in the Culinary Arts Advisory Board.
- Managing partnerships with the City, NGOs, community partners, and the private sector.
- Maintaining accurate records, including timesheets, payroll documentation, work-site agreements, NYS Career Plan, and the Employability Skills Profile, and making periodic site visits to internship and employment sites.
- Facilitating work-based learning experiences such as SYEP, Work Learn Grow, etc.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Principal or his/her designee.
Required Qualifications:
- NYS CTE Professional Certification in Culinary Arts 7-12
- Work-Based Learning Coordinator Certification and Experience
- ServSafe certified or holding the NY Health Dpt. Food Protection Permit
- Familiar with, or ability to quickly learn, the ProStart “ curriculum
- Commitment to excellence and professionalism in teaching and the culinary arts
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelors degree in Baking in the Culinary Arts from an accredited college or cooking school.
- Knowledge of the ProStart Curriculum, Levels 1 and 2
- Three years of high school teaching/training experience
- Hands-on baking and pastry arts skills and techniques

Teacher performance is formally appraised during evaluation cycles that occur at least once during the school year. Appraisals are transparent, collaborative, intended to promote professional growth, and based on the accomplishment of the major goals and responsibilities outlined in your job description.
