Progressive Beef is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Progressive Beef Specialist to join our team.
In this role, you will be responsible for conducting gap analyses, writing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training new feedyards. The PB Specialist’s core responsibilities include training, updating feedyard program content, and auditing. This position will also be cross trained to review SOPs and internal audits, which is a principal element of Progressive Beef’s robust auditing program. The ideal candidate will be passionate about people, feedyards, animal welfare, and ensuring a high standard of quality and efficiency in beef production. You will work closely with the Progressive Beef team, feedyard crews, farmer feeders, nutritionists, and veterinarians to enhance beef production processes while creating a foundation in accountability and transparency through training, customization, and verification.

Key Responsibilities
- Attention to Detail: The little things matter in Progressive Beef by producing quality work, building credibility, enhancing problem solving, and creating a positive impact on the customer experience.
- Collaboration: Work with other PB team members, feedyard crews, veterinarians, and nutritionists to complete projects, tasks, and achieve goals for customers.
- Communication: Effectively share information with others, verbally or written, in a manner that is respectful of others time, solution driven, and leads to everyone’s success.
- Conducting Gap Analysis: Analyze and understand gaps in meeting program requirements, then develop, create, and implement an action plan for successful implementation.
- Writing SOPs, Cattle Care Guide, & HACCP: Understand each specific feedyard practice relative to Progressive Beef and write standard operating procedures to accurately reflect current practices and how a feedyard chooses to meet program requirements.
- Training: Develop training materials to teach feedyard crews the “why” behind Progressive Beef, how to use the PB Mobile App, and documentation needed to achieve compliance.
- Conduct Internal Audits: Verify compliance and analyze potential non-conformances on-site using the PB Audit App and electronic checklist by collecting relevant documentation, interviews, and visual assessment of processes.
- Reviewing: Cross train with the lead PB Reviewer to align and ensure all internal audits and feedyard SOPs meet set program criteria consistently across all feedyards.
- Animal Welfare: Promote and communicate at all times the ethical treatment of cattle, advocate low stress handling and willful acts of abuse are not acceptable.
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience in beef production, livestock management, or a similar agricultural field.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Detail-driven mindset that is highly attentive to small specific details and prioritizing correct execution.
- Preferred familiarity with animal welfare guidelines and industry certifications (e.g., BQA, Certified Humane, GAP).
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and food safety standards.
