Full Salary Range: $109,803-$140,566 (DOQ) - Preferred Hiring Range: $115,356-$127,337
The Village of Waunakee, Wisconsin, is hiring for Deputy Administrator / Community Development Director, a key leadership position within the organization. This is a special opportunity for a local government professional who aspires to become Village Administrator for one of the fastest growing and well-regarded communities in the vibrant Capitol region of Madison, Wisconsin.
Waunakee’s Village Board is committed to planning for leadership succession for the Village Administrator position, with the long-standing administrator anticipating retirement in early 2027. Upon hire, this position will be responsible for overseeing the Village’s Community Development functions, including economic development, planning, inspections, code enforcement, GIS, and more. The position directly supervises the Senior Planner/GIS Manager and oversees contracts for third-party inspection and code enforcement.
This is a public-facing position that serves as the lead staff member for the Village’s Planning Commission, Joint Plan Commission, Tourism Commission, Community Development Authority, and Sustainable Waunakee Ad-Hoc Committee. The position will frequently participate and present during meetings of the Village Board. Community engagement is expected and encouraged, including building relationships with local business, community organizations, clubs and non-profits, and the community at large.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree strongly preferred) in public administration, planning, or a closely-related field, and at least five years of experience in municipal government, preferably with supervisory experience in community development, economic development, and general government administration.
