Title: Sr Cloud Engineer- Database

Location: Rochester, NY; hybrid candidates with 10% travel required

The objective of the Role: Sr.Cloud Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing database solutions in cloud environments with a primary focus on AWS. This role combines deep technical expertise in cloud database platforms with the ability to deliver exceptional client solutions. The ideal candidate will serve as a technical specialist in database technologies while contributing to the overall cloud engineering practice and mentoring junior team members

Experience managing databases in regulated environments with compliance requirements

Required Experience for the Role:

1.       Minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud engineering, with at least 3 years focused on database administration

2.       AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification or higher

3.      Demonstrated expertise with AWS database services including RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, and Redshift

4.      Experience with database migration, replication, backup strategies, and disaster recovery in cloud environments

5.      Strong SQL skills and experience with performance tuning and query optimization

6.      Experience with database security best practices, including encryption, access controls, and monitoring

7.      Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation of database operations

8.      Experience working in a professional services or managed services delivery model

9.      Demonstrated ability to document complex technical solutions and create implementation plans

10.  Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues

Preferred Experience for the Role:

1.       AWS Database Specialty certification

2.       Azure certification (AZ-104, AZ-305, or equivalent)

3.      Experience with Azure database services including Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, and Synapse Analytics

4.      Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) for database provisioning

5.      Experience with database DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines

6.      Knowledge of containerized database solutions and orchestration platforms

7.      Experience with database monitoring tools and performance analytics

8.      Background in data architecture and modeling

9.      Experience with compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI) as they relate to database systems

Responsibilities, including success measures and KPIs:

1.       Database Design and Implementation

 a.      Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-effective database solutions on AWS

 b.      Create and maintain database architecture documentation

 c.      Develop standardized patterns and templates for database deployments

 d.      Implement best practices for database performance, security, and reliability

2.       Technical Support and Operations

 a.      Provide expert database support to the managed services team

 b.      Troubleshoot and resolve complex database performance and availability issues

 c.      Implement and manage database monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions

3.      Database Migration and Modernization

 a.      Lead database migration projects from on-premises to cloud environments

 b.      Modernize legacy database systems to leverage cloud-native capabilities

 c.      Implement hybrid database solutions where appropriate

 d.      Optimize database costs through right-sizing and appropriate instance selection

4.      Client Engagement and Advisory

 a.      Provide technical consultation to clients on database architecture and best practices

 b.      Conduct Well-Architected Framework Reviews focused on database workloads

 c.      Deliver database assessments and recommendations for optimization

d.      Collaborate with sales and solutions teams on scoping database-related projects

Salary : $150,000 - $170,000
