What You'll Do:
- Use polishing tools, grinders, and finishing equipment to smooth weld seams, remove imperfections, and ensure a high-quality finish on stainless steel surfaces.
- Clean stainless-steel surfaces to remove oils, dirt, and contaminants; inspect welded areas for oxidation, discoloration, and other defects.
- Prep and refine TIG-welded areas to meet specifications; assist welders with finishing and address any weld-related issues.
- Inspect finished work to ensure welds are polished, defect-free, and meet industry and client standards.
- Follow safety protocols, use proper protective gear, and report unsafe conditions.
- Maintain and clean polishing equipment; ensure tools are stored and in optimal working condition.
- Record daily tasks, material usage, and report on progress and issues.
- Work with welders and supervisors to meet project goals and deadlines, assisting as needed.
What We're Looking For:
- Proficient in using polishing machines, grinders, and finishing tools
- Skilled in working with stainless steel and other metals for fabrication and finishing
- Knowledgeable in TIG welding techniques and post-weld finishing processes
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and precision
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in stainless steel polishing and grinding, specifically with TIG welds on vessels or similar equipment.
Power tools used:
- Angle Grinders: Used for grinding and finishing weld seams, removing surface imperfections, and polishing stainless steel.
- Polishers/Buffer Machines: Used for achieving a high-quality, mirror-like finish on stainless steel surfaces.
- Orbital Sanders: Used for smoothing and polishing the welded areas, ensuring an even finish.
- Belt Sanders: Employed for heavy-duty grinding and smoothing on larger areas of the vessel.
- Die Grinders: Used for precision grinding and finishing in tight or hard-to-reach areas of the vessel.
- Flap Discs: Attached to grinders for polishing and surface finishing, providing a smoother surface on welds.
- Wire Brushes: Used for cleaning welded areas and prepping the surface before further polishing or grinding.
- Rotary Polishers: For final surface treatment, achieving a smooth and polished appearance on the finished welds.
