At Animal Hospital of Wilkes, we are seeking a compassionate and experienced Kennel Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our facilities department, you will be responsible for providing top-notch care to our patients and boarders.
Responsibilities:
- Provide care for all animals housed or visiting, including feeding, watering, cleaning, walking, bathing, and monitoring their well-being.
- Observe and report any signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to technicians and/or veterinarians.
- Apply knowledge of normal food and liquid requirements of animals and provide special diets as needed.
- Assist in the check-in and discharge of boarding and visiting animals as necessary.
- Walk hospitalized and boarded dogs a minimum of three times per day to provide exercise and potty time.
- Ensure cages and animals are properly labeled and identified, and that personal property is stored in its proper area.
- Patrol hospital grounds daily, picking up any trash or stool material.
- Take charge and/or handle animals as required, and help restrain difficult-to-control animals.
- Clean cages, kennels, and runs, and wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
- Perform general cleaning in boarding and animal housing areas, and assist with animal bathing and grooming tasks.
- Assist in educating clients on various aspects of animal care.
Requirements:
- Prior experience working with animals.
- Sufficient physical strength, mobility, and stamina to lift and/or move heavy pets and objects.
- A sense of fun and teamwork - smiles and laughter are a must!
- Dependability and ability to work independently.
- The ability to monitor pets for signs of distress or disease.
- A willingness to learn and provide gentle, compassionate care for boarded and hospitalized pets.
