We are looking for a Kennel Technician to join our growing team and help provide outstanding care and services to the pets who depend on us.
As a Kennel Technician at Elmore Road Veterinary Clinic , you will play a vital role in ensuring the comfort, well-being, and safety of the animals under our care. You will work closely with our veterinary staff, including veterinarians and veterinary technicians, to assist with daily animal care, husbandry, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. This position requires a compassionate, hardworking, and dependable individual with a passion for animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities
Animal Care & Husbandry :
- Provide daily care for animals in the kennel, including feeding, watering, and administering medications as directed by the veterinary team.
- Monitor animal behavior, alert veterinary staff to any changes in health or behavior, and provide basic first aid when necessary.
- Ensure the kennel environment is clean, safe, and comfortable for all animals in our care.
- Assist with bathing, grooming, and exercise routines for boarding animals.
- Provide enrichment activities to enhance animal welfare and mental stimulation.
- Ensure that all animals are properly identified, using tags or collars, and are housed in clean and secure kennels.
Client Service & Communication :
Greet and interact with pet owners in a professional, friendly, and compassionate manner.Update pet owners on their animal's status, answering questions about boarding, care, and medical needs.Assist with coordinating the drop-off and pick-up of animals, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for clients.Collaborate with the veterinary team to relay any concerns from clients regarding their pets' health or behavior.Facility & Equipment Maintenance :
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kennel area, including cleaning kennels, runs, play areas, and common spaces.Properly dispose of waste and sanitize equipment to meet clinic health and safety standards.Ensure that animal care supplies are stocked, and assist with maintaining inventory.Team Support :
Work collaboratively with veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and other kennel staff to provide optimal care to patients.Assist with veterinary procedures, including prepping animals for exams, assisting with medical treatments, and preparing animals for surgery, under the direction of veterinary staff.Be adaptable and responsive to the needs of the clinic as they arise, including providing assistance during busy periods.Skills, Knowledge & Expertise to be Successful
Relevant Experience : Previous experience working in animal care, veterinary clinics, or animal boarding facilities preferred.Animal Handling Skills : Experience in handling animals of various sizes, temperaments, and species (including dogs, cats, and small animals) is strongly preferred.Knowledge of Veterinary Medicine : Familiarity with basic animal care principles, animal husbandry, and common animal medical conditions is a plus.Compassionate and Reliable : A genuine passion for animal welfare, excellent attention to detail, and a caring demeanor.Physical Stamina : Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods. Ability to handle physical tasks such as cleaning, animal lifting, and running / playing with animals.Customer Service Skills : Strong communication skills with clients and a commitment to providing excellent client service in a professional and friendly manner.Team Player : Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment and take direction from veterinary staff.Key Traits We're Looking For :
