Job Title: R&D Builder
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled R&D Builder to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and testing prototype machinery, developing operational and service documentation, and training service and installation personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews designs for build efficiency, shipping, rigging, transport, and manufacturability
- Assembles entire machines, including mechanical drives, counterbalances, hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, and controls
- Leads acceptance run-off within the plant and at installation site
- Develops installation and service requirements for tech writers
- Trains and tracks install and service needs for prototype equipment
- Develops/improves work environment for new product assembly
- Tunes home, pick, and drop points for Fanuc robots
- Tracks issues, time estimate gaps, quality, and schedule for builds
- BUILDS RELATIONSHIPS AT THE TECHNICAL AND COMMERCIAL LEVEL WITH LOCAL SITE LEADS
- Provides support for proposal efforts or customer presentations
- Performs safety and housekeeping duties
- Participates in required training and applies safety skills/knowledge
- Participates in continuous improvement teams and/or empowerment teams
- Accurately completes required documentation
- Participates in training of co-workers in all aspects of job responsibilities
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Mechanical Engineering Manager
- Discusses service and warranty issues on all of the above with the Service Manager, Technicians, and Customers
- Participates in lessons learned efforts for improving next builds
- Tracks BOM accuracy
- Leads supporting help on builds
- Works with Lead Controls Engineer for testing, tuning, and final acceptance testing
Requirements:
- Minimum five years in system engineering related to automated systems
- Exposure to simulation software in an Automation Environment
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for use, review, and updates
- Proficiency with Solidworks for use, review, and updates
- Familiarity with ERP systems
- Familiarity with material handling systems design (or equivalent)
- Experience conducting system field startup activities
- Must have excellent conflict resolution skills
- Must be available and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to meet customer project commitments
- Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Fork truck skill including rigging
- Fanuc Robot point teaching
- Conduit bending, hole punching
- Skill and ability to read mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics
- Sets all required adjustments for machine functions (e.g., pressures, flows, etc.)
- Electromechanical skills: Mounting sensors, actuators
- Fabrication, welding, soldering, crimping, flaring, sawing, punching, etc.
- Measurement tools: Calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.
- Use of multimeter
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- This position will require walking, sitting, using hands and fingers to handle or feel objects/tools/controls, reaching with hands and arms, balancing, stooping, talking, and hearing
- While performing the duties of this job, this person may be exposed to a noise level that is usually minimal but may be elevated at times
