Summary: The Buyer is responsible for independently managing the procurement of materials, components, and services to support medical device manufacturing in a contract environment. This role has direct authority to issue purchase orders, evaluate supply and demand needs, and adjust purchasing strategies to align with operational goals. Buyer makes independent purchasing decisions that impact cost, inventory levels, and production schedules while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
To succeed in this role, strong analytical skills, supplier coordination, and the ability to proactively manage procurement challenges are essential. The Buyer collaborates cross functionally to ensure cost effective, timely, and quality driven supply chain operations.
Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Procurement & Supplier Management:
- Independently evaluates and selects suppliers within approved vendor lists based on quality, cost, delivery, and reliability.
- Negotiates purchase terms (pricing, minimum order quantities, lead times) to optimize cost savings and supplier performance.
- Manages purchase order lifecycle from order placement to on time delivery, making adjustments as necessary to mitigate risks.

Operational Decision-Making & Risk Mitigation:
- Exercises independent judgment in purchasing decisions that affect inventory levels, production timelines, and cash flow.
- Identifies and resolves supply chain disruptions through proactive supplier communication and alternate sourcing strategies.
- Collaborates with internal teams (production, quality, engineering) to ensure procurement activities support business goals.

Financial & Business Impact:
- Manages purchasing activities within assigned suppliers and categories, ensuring cost-effective purchasing decisions.
- Monitors market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supplier lead times to recommend cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintains accurate cost data and ensures pricing integrity in ERP systems.

Data Integrity & Compliance:
- Owns part record data accuracy, ensuring up to date pricing, lead times, quotes, data sheets, and shelf-life information.
- Ensures compliance with procurement policies and customer specifications and may assist in obtaining and storing material composition compliance documentation.
- Interprets and applies company policies to purchasing strategies, adjusting as necessary within guidelines.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication:
- Communicates supply availability, lead times, and order status to scheduling, operations, and sales teams.
- Acts as the primary point of contact for supplier order fulfillment and delivery issues.
Accountabilities:
- Independently executes purchasing activities that impact cost, inventory, and production schedules.
- Maintains 100% data integrity in part records, including pricing, lead times, and supplier data.
- Ensures on time order placement and proactive resolution of supplier delivery issues.
- Identifies cost reduction opportunities while balancing lead time and quality requirements.
Training/Education/Experience:
- Minimum of 1 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably within the medical device or contract manufacturing industry.
- Proven ability to make independent decisions that impact business operations and financial outcomes.
- Strong negotiation skills with experience in supplier management.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to medical device manufacturing.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively across departments and with external partners.
