What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Scientist, Translational Research position at Inograft Biotherapeutics, Inc.?
ABOUT INOGRAFT BIO
Inograft Bio is a preclinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the development of best-in-class non-genotoxic bone marrow conditioning regimens for bone marrow transplantation. Formed in late 2022, with founders from Stanford University School of Medicine and Forty Seven Inc. (acquired by Gilead in 2020 for $4.9B), Inograft Bio aims to develop life-changing therapies by applying proven stem cell therapies to areas of significant unmet medical need, including genetic disorders, autoimmune diseases, aging, and organ transplant.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Inograft is seeking a highly self-motived, intellectually capable, collaborative physician and / or scientist to join and eventually lead a team of scientists within our translational research division. The Principal Scientist- Translational Research will play a critical role in guiding the development of our novel bone marrow conditioning regimen into its true potential as a practical clinical modality. This role will require the incorporation of continually evolving data from our passionate multidisciplinary teams, including basic scientists, protein engineers, and translational scientists into non-human primate proof-of concept studies and ultimately into IND-enabling studies. As such, this individual will need to have sufficient diversity of experience and exposure to these various areas to comfortably communicate with these groups. Successful execution of this role’s responsibilities will also require the continuous balancing of the basic science approach with the practicality required for CROs studies and clinical translation. The candidate will have significant potential for professional growth as many of Inograft’s needs are novel and fast-paced.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Principal Scientist will be primarily responsible for driving an internal team towards experimental goals and interacting with multiple internal teams. Some coordinating with external Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to execute studies related to non-human primates will be required. This role will require expertise in laboratory techniques, data analysis, and scientific communication to support the development and advancement of key research projects. Specific areas of responsibility include :
- Flow Cytometry Panel Development
Develop and optimize high-parameter flow cytometry panels for characterizing various subsets of hematopoietic cells, including mature cells, progenitor cells, and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). This involves customizing panels for specific research purposes and ensuring compatibility across different cytometry platforms (e.g. BD and Beckman Coulter)
Plan, design, and conduct laboratory experiments to support research objectives. This includes troubleshooting technical issues, ensuring reproducibility, and documenting all procedures for accurate tracking and reporting
Perform in-depth analysis of flow cytometry data, with the ability to identify and interpret complex data patterns. Ensure data quality and accuracy through rigorous analysis, and apply advanced statistical techniques as needed
Provide mentorship and supervision to junior scientists and research associates. Facilitate a collaborative environment that fosters skill development, and encourage best practices in laboratory research and data integrity
Design receptor occupancy PK or other assays to determine the interaction dynamics of drug candidates with their biological targets
Regularly communicate progress, findings, and challenges to internal teams and external CROs. This includes preparing technical reports, presenting data to stakeholders, and adapting scientific language for diverse audiences
Ensure all experimental work adheres to laboratory safety standards and regulatory guidelines. Maintain a clean and organized lab environment and promote safety protocols among team members
